Ok so for a while now I've been carrying around an "emergency kit" in the car. This kit changes a bit season to season, but mostly it's the same year round. so the thing is
1) What if anything do you think I should be adding/removing from my setup?
2) What if anything do you carry around with you in your car?
My setup is as follows:
booster cables, snow brush, windshield washer fluid, flashlight (batteries), little fold up shovel, knife, water bottles, first aid kit, bungee cables, gloves, lighter, pen and paper.

great for if you get stuck. you just put them under the front of your drive wheels, and away you go. they work great!

Good setup.
Things to add: Flares, reflective triangles, foil fold up blanket, latex gloves if you don't have them in the first aid kit. Replace the pen with a pencil... pens dry out and don't work well in the cold.
why do you need all that stuff when you can just get CAA

why do you need all that stuff when you can just get CAA
1) I go hunting/camping/fishing/ basically anything outdoors, CAA isn't going to help me when my car gets stuck or breaks down when i'm 200 kms from the middle of no where and it's going to take them 6 hours to get there, if I can even get a cell phone signal at all.
the foil emergency blanket is in the first aid kit already, I've got a fanny pack style one and and a box style one.

+1 for blankets. Even one of those fleece ones that come in a bag.
Also, in a pinch floor mats are good for scooping snow or for sticking under a tire for traction if you're stuck.

it's always smart to be prepared. In a snowstorm you could wait hours for CAA to arrive.
Froggy, how about a candle?

Replace the water bottles with a wine bottle. While waiting for hours without signal you could get piss drunk and pretend this is all just a bad dream.
But on the serious note, get more clothes, wool socks, sweaters, scarf, hat, gloves, and even boots.

I live in Toronto, but it's not where I spend all my time. Like i said before I hunt, fish, camp, snowboard and stuff, and you can't do those activities in toronto. So I go to places where I can, Tremblant, algonquin, killbear, etc

I'm in BC's northern interior so mine is a little different but you look like you have the essentials. You might add a small bag of kitty litter to use for traction if you are stuck on ice and perhaps a spare headlight bulb in case you blow one when you are far from home (not that changing a HID or even halogen bulb is going to be very fun). I carry cervical collars, and a trauma first aid kit, along with wool blankets that are vacuum packed, an avalanche shovel, a strobe, some light tools (screwdriver, multi-tool, etc.), antifreeze, road flares, and everything you list. I carry most of it in a 90L Rubbermaid ActionPacker that sits in my car year-round.

you got some serious gear for some serious weather!
I also keep a kit in a rubbermaid...prolly the one size smaller than the 90L.

I have been very fortunate that I have never had to use it and where I live I can leave the tote in the back without worrying about it being stolen. I forgot to mention one other thing that I have found useful is a cheap set of industrial rain gear as you can use it inclement weather or as coveralls if you need to work on your or someone else's vehicle.

You are all forgetting a candle. If stuck and waiting for a long time, a candle will raise the temperature of the car upwards of 10deg.

you need some food also; some granola bars, beef jerky or whatever will last a while without going bad.

I don't know about you but when you're "stuck" and you finally get enough momentum, how in the world are you suppose to pick those things back up? If the weather's that bad, the last thing you want to do is stop again!
So that's $40 wasted? :chuckle

keep some nylon rope in the car. use the drivers side floor mat and loop the rope in the hook hole and hold the rope out of window. once you've freed yourself you can reel in the floor mat.

I do have candles I just forgot to write it in my original post, I keep most of my stuff in a knapsack and the other stuff in a plastic tote, windshield fluid, booster cables, snow brush, shovel.
I also in winter try not to run my car under 1/4 tank of gas, just in case

I tried the floor mat routine to get out of the snow one time - doesn't work. Even brought floor mats that are dual purpose with spikes on one side, and that didn't work.

floor mats sometimes helps sometimes doesn't. helped me once and never again. LOL.
just wondering. during winter, how will water help because leaving a bottle in my car overnight changes it from a liquid state to a solid state? though i know that it is essential.

well not all days in the winter are always bellow zero, and I was thinking with the candle(s) you could always melt it a little at a time, plus too after you've been driving for a bit with the heater on i'm sure it'll warm up the rest of your car a bit.
and yes even if it's in a plastic bottle you can still use the candle to heat it up you just have to make sure that the plastic doesn't touch the flame

you can literally boil water in a plastic bottle on an open flame as long as it's not too hot and you constantly rotate the bottle...nothing like a spot of hot tea to go with that frostbite.
