So one of my aunts visiting from HK bought an ipod nano (current generation) and dropped it off with my uncle, who dropped it off with me. I actually wanted an ipod touch and am prepared to pay the difference (duh), but I don't have a reciept... The Nano is still sealed. Quite frankly, I don't know where she got it when she was here, and I don't think my aunt has the mental capacity to even remember where she put the bill, much less having it sent/faxed/scanned back for me.
I tried Walmart, and although they kind-of implied that they'd be willing to exchange it for me, apparently no locations in Mississauga/Queensway have the 8GB in stock. I called up the apple store in desperation, and the girl was nice enough to offer to take a look at it - if it was bought at the apple store, they could swap it, otherwise i'd be SOL. Heartland Staples flat out refused me, and the FutureShop and BestBuy customer service reps at Heartland seemed to just stare at me a blink. Damnit, I gave 5 years of my life to that FS, but nobody I know is there anymore :(
So here's the kicker. I surprised my gf with a trip to the Bahamas for xmas, and am flying out in about a week or so... I would really really really like to have an ipod touch with me for the trip. Can anyone help me out or provide guidance/advice? Reward for a successful exchange is negotiable (reasonable non-sexual requests please) includes a timmies coffee and my eternal gratitude? :winner

Does Futureshop allow you to return items without receipt for a in-store credit? Maybe your approach should be to try to return it for a store credit first. Then use that store credit to buy the ipod touch.

^^^^ That's the thing, nobody in either location would give a definitive/satisfactory answer... The guy at FS elected to mumble something about the serial number and apple tracking the location of each device... Riiight...

going to FS/BB without a receipt will mean you are SOL. I think Apple store is your best bet.

I know Walmart will for sure return it for store credit without a receipt. It's a shame they don't have any ipod touches in stock though.

^^^ I figured as much :( It's really up to the rep, as I've seen it done regularly during my "time" there

I wonder if Fonz can chime in about stock at other locations :P I'm totally up for a little drive if they would do it for me, and have stock!

You should just try phoning the walmarts near you and asking if they have stock. I know the walmart website lists the store's phone numbers.

Buy the ipod touch and Craigslist the nano when you come back.

But you will end up losing quite a bit of money selling it on Craigslist/Kijiji vs getting full retail price for it.

a lot of stores have stopped doing non-receipt refunds; The Bay was probably the last one to do it and they stopped about 2 years ago.
basically, people would take an item from the store, walk up to the cash register with it and say "i don't have a receipt for this, i must have lost it or forgot it at home, but i'd like to return it" and then get either the last sale price value of the item in cash or a gift card. easiest way to make money from nothing (essentially theft and fraud).
the more brazen ones would steal from one store and return at another.
The other one was they'd buy small appliances from Caynes or Wal-Mart and return them at the Bay (non-receipt) and get the Bay's price (which was always higher than Caynes or Wal-Mart).
you're SOL. unless a member of TM3 that works at FS/BB can 'hook you up'.

Hey mang. The Best Buy I used to work at DID take items back without receipts. This was in the summer time. They will give you store credit.
It may take some work, but push it, and they will give in. The managers at this location are VERY lenient.
Oh, by the way, this is the Sherway location.

Wow, that hadn't even occured to me. Thankfully though, since the item (ipod nano) is a controlled item, its locked up in a display case - can't just walk in and steal one.

I'll definately give them a try if they have inventory, thanks for the heads up.

FYI I work with Walmart as a Customer Service Manager and we actually WILL NOT take that at my store. Everyone thinks that everything can be returned with no receipt but thats not true.

That's not a bad idea, though the odds of that happening are pretty slim :( Anyone?

This seems to be a very store-specific concept though. My gf, like aristeidis, have gotten store credit for an item without a reciept at Walmart before, though admitedly it was for an item of smaller value than an ipod.
You're a CSM eh? :chuckle You sure I can't grease your wheels with a coffee AND some doughnuts along with the aforementioned eternal gratitude? :hawt

It really depends which store you go to and how much of a fuss you make... I used to work at the returns desk and also as a CSM and my store would take back no-receipt stuff except that anything over $20 went on a gift card.
Take it back to Walmart and get a store credit. You can then either find a store that has the iPod you want in stock or just use the store credit to get other stuff that you need anyway.

Thanks St3alth, PMed back.
I figure I could try to grab the store credit from Walmart, but i'd actually like to leave with the ipod touch :P
... Plus, it adds a touch of truth and sincerity to my situation, and that i'm not just looking to make a buck :P

Walmart in heartland should have it. I'll check electronics tomorrow. I can also ask a couple of guys who work in that dept to check the back if need be.

Haha I'd love to but what our store does different is that we help you trace all receipts. As long as its on debit or credit card, we just ask you to look for your statement, find the EXACT date and we reprint the receipt for you. If it wasnt from our store, we ask you to go to the store you bought it from to do so. If it was from cash....well SOL.
