Simple as that..

When you press the play/pause button and you have a CD playing does it pause it?

I have a 2008.5 that does NOT do it. nor does another member who has a 2008.5... WTF? so I went to get it fixed at oakville mazda and first they replace the WHOLE radio unit and it still doesn't work and they replaced the face controller which doesn't fix the problem either (because there is NO play/pause button on the new face but a 'PROG' button) wtfffff?

yeah i still need to go in and get it fixed once that shop re-orders another part...:whoa but jus wondering if any other 2008.5 or any year/models have the same issue?

thanks

The play/pause button does not work. You can only play or stop a CD. There is no pause option with the player. We had this exact problem and after contacting Mazda Tech were advised that CD's do not pause

On my '07 I just turn the power off. When I hit power again the CD continues from the same spot from when I tuned it off. I'm not sure if it's any different on the '08.5.

Changing modes does the same thing. Going from CD to FM, will pause the CD.

The pause button is only there to pause the siruis radio if installed. I believe it even says that right in the manual for the 2008.5 under the audio section.

I did some digging and you are correct sir. I couldn't find it in the 2008.5 manual but I did find it in the 2009. This is what I found.

It is actually called the "Instant Replay Button", not Pause.

Directly from the manual...

Instant replay
This function allows you to rewind and replay the program that you were previously or are currently listening to. Press the instant replay button.

When the category button (DOWN) is briefly pressed (about 0.5 seconds), playback starts from the beginning of the current program.

When the category button (DOWN) is pressed twice, playback starts from the beginning of the previous program.

When the category button (DOWN) is pressed for about 0.5 seconds or longer, the program is reversed while the button is being pressed.

When the category button (UP) is briefly pressed (about 0.5 seconds), playback starts from the beginning of the next program.

When the category button (UP) is briefly pressed (about 0.5 seconds) while the last program is being played, the instant replay mode is cancelled.

When the category button (UP) is pressed for 0.5 seconds or longer, the program is fast-forwarded while the button is being pressed.

When pressing and holding the button until the end of the program, the instant replay mode is cancelled. When the instant replay button is pressed again, playback is temporarily stopped, or playback starts if it has been temporarily stopped.

Instant replay (PAUSE)
If the instant replay button is pressed while the instant replay mode is off, instant replay mode is turned on in a paused condition (PAUSE). Press the instant replay button again to resume playback from the point at which it was paused.

NOTE
- If the channel is changed, the instant replay buffer data is deleted.

- After turning on the power and switching to SIRIUS digital satellite radio mode, the instant replay mode is not available for several seconds after changing channels. 6-40 Interior Comfort Audio System (How to cancel the instant replay) l Turn off the ACC or POWER. l Press any one of the following buttons: FM/AM, CD, MEDIA, SAT, SEEK/ CAT/TRACK, or a channel preset button. l Insert or play a CD.

Thanks Ryan. I remember reading it in the manual, but I never use the functionality. Thanks for posting the details.

ARG :bang

then why is oakville mazda attempting to fix it for me =_= if they cannot... they must know this?!

This is like the 3rd time i've drove in each time they have replace a part and it still doesn't work. Also they always hand me the key back saying its all fixed until I actually press the play/pause button to find out it does not work..
It would have been WAY more convient if they just told me the 1st or at least the 2nd time around.

All I can say is 'Wow'...and sorry to hear.

The dealer service rep and dealer techs really should know better than this. Especially Oakville, who we often hold up to a higher standard than most others. This said, can't say I am totally surprised.

The manual for my Speed3 is 2008 since my car is a 2008.5. I remembered reading about it as I am one of those anal people that actually reads car manuals, especially true since the MS3 was different than the '05 and also I wanted to since it was the first car I've owned with Sirius radio.

Look on the bright side, you got some new parts for free and now you know the pause isn't for CD's... :)

still was an inconvenience for him though, going back and forth.

but yeah, look on the bright side, new parts everytime you go back. LOL.

I think most people like myself knew day 1 that the Play/Pause button did not work LOL. I figured the function was reserved for some other expensive option. I didn't even bother with it as the rest of the car seems fine.
