weird RPM

Today I noticed that my RPM won't go over 3000 while driving on the highway, it's like someone installed a limiter on RPM, anyone know whats wrong? Air filter? I got a Fujita CAI.

does it only do it in top gear or in all gears? Automatic or five speed? I had that happen on my old passat and it ended up being that I had a catalytic converter that collapsed and was partially blocking the exhaust. In my case it was a little bit higher closer to 3500 rpms, at that point the back pressure was so much that the engine wouldn't rev against it

Not that I know much about, nor experienced, but the car does have a "limp mode" as a fail safe incase of dire engine issues. Did you throw a CEL by chance?

Yes, BUT it was not related to this problem as CEL code was p0113 which had to do with the maf wires being broken but I fixed that and don't have CEL's.

that's wierd, does your car have the manual mode? try driving it like that and see if it'll go over 3000 in other gears. If it doesn't I'd be thinking it's a back pressure issue like I had. otherwise I'd say something wrong with the tranny

Ok, so when I put it into tiptronic mode, it will go over 3000rpm...

Um... not to sound like a cock, but I would imagine it to be quite difficult to get the car past 3k revs in 5th gear on city streets/highways. Are you sure it's not just dropping down to 4th and revving past 3k?

MAF sensor... same problem couple weeks ago

"so im driving my car today east on the 417 from kanata and around woodroffe my car kinda stall(but the engine continues to run) so i merge to right lane and the car slows down on its own to 40km/hr and will not go faster, also thee CEL is on and will not rev more then 2000rpm...

so i make it to a nearby gas station while on the phone with jean at elite..then when i put it in park it reved to a constant 3000rpm while out of the car..

i shut it off and turn it on... everything is fine... jean says to drive and see what happens... so i do

get to greely and turn a corner and now what feels like the rev limiter... is stuck at 3000rpm and will not allow more rpms

ANYBODY HAVE INFO ON WHAT MIGHT BE GOING ON HERE?

yes it our cars apparently dohave limp/safe mode.

I think its my air filter...maybe its dirty and needs a good cleaning or replacing.
