Hey guys, I did a search, and it seemed as if all the results I got were regarding windshield replacement, and not chip repairs.
Anyways, my car is just a few months old, and I got a chip on the windshield. I was wondering what places you folks would recommend for getting it filled up/repaired. Hopefully I won't have to replace the entire thing...
If you don't have places to recommend, sponsors that you know of that I could pm would be appreciated as well.
Thanks!

Apple Autoglass is ok. Just call around and find the best price.

Depending on the size, you can buy a windshield crack repair kit from Walmart or Canadian Tire etc. They are usually good for stone chips, and not large cracks. I think they are ~$15 and I used it on my parent's Camry. Seemed to do the trick.

Yikes... I don't trust myself to fix it lmao...
Anyways, how much is the average fill up? I'm assuming under $50?

Yeah, under $50 is usually about right. That said, my buddy went to Apple and the guy didn't even charge him! Call Jimmy and ask him for his guy; he has a contact at Apple who I'll be using to replace my windshield in the near future.
I got a chip in mine to..i never bothered to fix it....but i think it's about $80 to fill at least in Belleville it is

Yeah it certainly is! If I can get a good rate I'll get both my car and my dad's car fixed up...
I'll definitely give Street Performance a call. I'll probably pm Jeff too, and the new Auto Collisions sponsor too.

Depending on how deep, the longer you leave it, the chances it will creep, crack and then you'll need a new windshield.
That happened to my 2007 and I kicked myself in the butt for leaving it so long. All it took was a change in temperature and a slight bump in the road.

Yeah I just got mine filled for around 80$, but if you have glass coverage in your insurance you are allowed one fix a year and it won't affect your insurance.

$80 around here too. North York.
Im not sure how that filling stuff works. I know someone who got a chip filled and within a few months his windshield cracked all to hell and the place he got it repaired wanted nothing to do with him.. I dont know who it was...I really dont think it was one of these bigger names because I can't remember it - probably why they wouldn't help.

Krown Lakeshore has told me the same thing before. They told me to leave it when I asked them before...
Anyways, I got a quote from a place I always get work done for 50 bucks. I'll give a few more calls and make my decision based on that.
Thanks guys! Any more input would be helpful!

We can repair your windshield as well with the resin fill method. In order to be able to repair your windshield it has to be a chip only, as a crack definitely means a replacement is required. Do it quickly, because chips easily turn into cracks with one good bump on the road.

Don't those fill ins make a crack worse even with a nice bump on the road and eventually it will crack again? I keep seeing Speedy Glass advertising them on TV a lot.

Not in my experience. I guess it would depend on the type of equipment you use. My own windshield was repaired and it's been about a year now and no problems so far. (+ my VR6 has an eibach pro kit so it's a little stiffer on bumps.)

I got some really visible scratch's on my rear windshield...can you repair it with filling the holes in or can only chips be repaired?

Depending on how deep the scratches are, they might be able to polish them out. See a Glass shop for pricing.
As for the crack repair, the larger places like Apple/Standard stand by the repair and will back you if it develops into a crack.

You can polish glass scratch's? Where can I get that done? I never knew such a thing existed. :headbang

Agreed! I've got some faint ones from my wiper blades (from dirty water) and general sandblasting.

Just the little pits of various within the glass, meant it as a general term.

Check out some of the products here (http://www.autogeek.net/lc-pro-glass-kit.html)
I've heard Diamondite (http://www.autogeek.net/diglclsy.html) is pretty good.
Not sure about sandblasted glass though. That might be a bit severe. Fine to light scratches maybe.

I took it into Apple, and they said that if the window shatters during the repair, I'm on my own.
I took it in to a shop that I normally get my repair work done at. They charged me $90 for 2 chips. The chips are covered up, but I can see where they were from the inside.
If anybody needs info, feel free to ask.

The longer you wait to do it, the worse it will look even after the repair.
I'm not talking about cracks and stuff, but as you drive, dirt and dust could accumulate inside the chip and result in a fill that isn't as clean.
Have you guys ever used those guys out in the tents at CT or WalMart? They're cheaper, I think $40-$50 for a chip, but workmanship is really a hit or miss. They usually have those warranties that will cover the repair if the chip spreads again. I've gotten one filled by a guy at WalMart before and it was great, couldn't see it at all after. There was another time I went to CT though and it still looked like crap. Might just depend on the size of the chip..

I've taken a few cars to the tents outside of CT - the guys will do it via "cash-only" deals, which are of negotiable price. I think the last one was sealed up on an 08 corolla for about $35?
