Here's the deal.

It is agreed that upgrading the output of your engine (intake / headers / exhaust) increses the stress on engine mounts that were designed by the manufacturer to make your ride more comfortable. The inital engineering endeavors by the manufacturer were/are marginal to say the least.

I've researched this affair and found several solutions, that cover both mecahnical and monetary whoas, and that may apply to your needs.

Here are the options:

Remove motor mount.

1) Buy a tube of 2-step 1900 psi grade epoxy / mix / and fill voids in motor mount bushing. Let set. (max $10)

2) Install Cork Sport pre-engineered polyurethane inserts ($35 USD, but actually about $50 -$60 to your door)

3) Buy aftermarket mount (retarded prices from $120 to $200 USD) plus additional charges that include shipping, taxes, fuel surcharge, political junket subsidies, MP and MPP pension surcharges, and governmental expense debaucheries as deemed necessary by the official.

Reinstall modified/new motor mount.

I heard that the epoxy method is sound, works real good, and hence, no exhorbitant taxes are collected and pooled so that a government official has enough tax dollars to spend on a good party.

What's your take on this?

Reduce wheel hop.

More response at launch time, crisper shifts, and reduced ET.

Makin' sure that it sticks.

I'm Super Charging this puppy.

YEEEEE - Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !!!

My personal opinion is that anyone who wants a rear mm invest in a proper mount with a good reputation. I've had the following:

1 - CS inserts. Vibes are extremely harsh and the performance benefits seem to disappear after they break in.
2 - Medieval rear mm - I like this one, but due to the design, the bolt backed out. After retightening it was fine. I ended up removing it because of the questionable quality.
3 - CPE - the shiznit; looks trick and does the job very well (ask MPS). Worth every penny. Vibes are minimal and after a year it is still holding up like a champ.

I suspect (because it happens to me) that you will still get wheel hop if you only upgrade your rear mm.

Your other options for motor mounts, which are not mentioned are:

Tranny mounts: TRZ; Street Unit; Medieval; I'm unaware of others.
Passenger side upper: AWR: Street Unit; Topspeed; ETD's (pick one)
Passenger side lower: PT-Performance kicker

BTW, PT-P has a fifth mount which is designed for the speed3 (it's like a cage that sits in front of the engine and braces it). Fobio might be able to comment further on this.

Thanks for the great info!

Rear MM's:
Cork Sport inserts - I'll now pass, or research further, some good and bad reviews
Medieval – reviews as junk, broken pieces all over the internet and highways
SU - two parts (that is designed to fail, there's a facked one for sale here)
TRZ Dog Bone – looks tough for $100
CP-e - looks good and solid, billet aluminum, and it's on sale! ***********

The other mounts:
Medieval (Mental Addiction Motorsports) - belly up, closed, being sued
SU - $330 USD for other two
AWR – good looking passenger mount $170 USD / stock configuration for the engine with Energy Suspension pu insert

PTP – can’t find actual website on this. Gotta link?

Found another brand - 'Wicked' - does anyone know of this brand?

RE: Wicked mounts: Seems like a ebay brand, and I don't know how much trust I would put into it.

AWR also makes a rear MM. Looks basically like the stock mount, with the entire center part replaced by polyurathene bushing.

Wicked - eBay is where I saw that.

AWR - that's what I wrote - stock mount with Energy Suspension polyurethane insert

Still lookin' for the PTP site, can't find it. Need link... anyone?

found it as well:

http://www.pt-performance.com/

... but can't find the PTP Kicker mount/brace on their site.

Oops! just did:

http://www.pt-performance.com/index.php?productName=kicker

I wonder if it will work on a MZ3 .... I sent them an inquiry.

They have a unique driver's side mount:

Those two together should box up everything nice and tight. The vibes might be terse though.

FWIW I just installed the SU rear mount on my speed3. Made a huge difference in reducing wheel hop. Shifting is smoother too. There is some added vibration at idle, but its minimal.

You mention that the aftermarket mounts are retarded expensive, but in my opinion they are worth every penny. After I put my intake on, I was spinning the wheels all through 3rd. The car was seriously traction limited due to wheel hop. Not anymore!!!

You can't go wrong with either the SU or CP-E. If I had to do it over again I'd go with the CP-E; it seems that is the general preference of the speed3 owners here.

PS - You're supercharging your MZ3? haha that is AWESOME.
PSS - One other option is to look at the M3M engine torque damper kit. Check MPS's GB.

I have the kicker mount in the garage. I'll be installing it in the spring on my 2.3L.

Can't use an ETD that installs between the passenger shock tower and upper right engine location. It gets in the way of the SC install.

Here's a kit that just about covers everything. Looks bullet proof as well. And once I've SC'd the little puppy I'll have an ETD to blow out in the classifieds. Just a thought.

Anyone have any experience with this or the products?
