Hi guys I'm looking to install HIDs on my car as well as my parents suv but I have no experience with HID kits before. My local shop (where I get all my work done) has a couple conversion kits on sale but i have a few questions.

1. Should I save money and try to install them myself? If i get the store to install them I get a year warranty on the bulb and ballets
2. My parents suv do not have projectors, because of the height will it blind incoming traffic?
3. For people who has installed 8K are they bright enough?

The kit that i'm looking at is:
HID kit (http://strictlycustomcreations.com/store/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=17&osCsid=3337b03ed7bb334e07c4150e0b89dfca)

it's an easy and quick installation, take your time and don't hurry...

the kit you see there is the same as the cheapest kit on ebay, and you can get one 55W for only 50$ with shipping. All the kits come from the same factory in China ;)

Good luck!

Any opinion about installing it on the SUV?

1) If you are somewhat mechanically inclined, do it yourself. If you are a Homer Simpson, get it done by someone that knows what they are doing.

2)If you did the install yourself, do you still get the 1 yr warranty? If not check out our sponsor section and look at the kits offered. There are ones that offer up to 18month warranty even if you install it yourself.

2) B/C your parents SUV does not have projectors, the headlights will blind oncoming traffic. I see so many vehicles w/o projectors (older civics, corollas, trucks, etc) that have aftermarket HID kits it blinds the oncoming traffic.

3) Any HID kit will be brighter that stock halogen bulbs. IMHO 8000K is ricey. Too purple for my liking. Go 6000K or 45000K.

4) No inside pic of what the kit consists of..a box tells me nothing.

^ All valid points/questions

What is the vehicle and what type of bulb does it use?

How do the DRLs work? Will your parents be ok with having to deal with an illegally disabled DRL setup?

1. You should check out my thread on how to install HIDs into a 04-06 Mazda 3 (http://torontomazda3.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=40599), which includes how to solve the problem of using HIDs as your Daytime Running Lights. It is quite easy, and only took me ~45min to do the first time.
Also, you should look into buying a kit from one of the sponsors here on the forum. I bought mine from Imports Tuning, for $100, with 18 month warranty. I personally met up with Kelvin (sp3GT) to pick up the kit, and he is a great guy to deal with.

2. Personally, I don't like people that run HIDs without projector lens as it blinds people, but each to their own.

3. I am running 8000K on mine. Although its not as bright as 6000K, it will still be significantly brighter than stock halogens. Because of the projector lens on our cars, the 8000K actually looks closer in colour to 6000K HIDs on non-projector cars. My roommate has 6000K on his Lancer (no projectors) and we compared.

I think i'm going to need to do some more research for my parent's Murano before i attempt to install HIDs. Thanks everyone for your quick responses.

Since this is your parents car I think you should stay away from 8000k especially without projector lens.
It will look ricey like those civics and blind people and possibly cop trouble.

If you do end up getting them for your parents car you should get 6k and save them the possibility of being pulled over.

Just so everyone knows.. I went on a ride along with a police officer last night and asked the officer what he thinks of HIDs. He told me they don't bother police as long as they are not stupidly blinding..

Nokya Arctic Purple is a Stage 2 bulb meaning it will be greater then the stock wattage. It's not recommended unless you upgrade your wiring harness. They are not that bright either, more for looks so definitely not recommended for headlight use.

In terms of looks they do look pretty purple.

^^ what are risks of running bulb without changing harness? blowing it?

Bulb blowing plus melting your wires... If you want purple Fogs I think HID kit at 10 or 12k would be the better route.

There is also the possibility of the increase heat generated from the bulb will melt the bulb housing.

I have heard about that before, as well as the extra heat burning the inside of the headlight housing which leaves that smokey look on the inside of your headlight.

I also ordered one from sp3GT. Great guy to deal with.

dam was hoping just the bulbs would work, think a 10-12k hid for fogs might be too blinding :(

10 - 12k bulbs put out way less light compared to 3000k yellow bulbs. I'd say they're less blinding if anything, but not too sure how legal it is.

Small input.

Specially on a SUV, I would avoid anything that would hinder someones ability to see more than it already does. As an SUV is higher, it's already a bit more "blinding" than most. Adding HID's without projectors would make it even worse. For oncoming traffic and anyone they are behind. I've seen one SUV a few times on my way to work where he has HID headlights AND fogs...and it's super bright for both oncoming traffic AND people going in that direction. Even if you are just passing that guy, it's still very blinding!

To have BOTH HID and fogs on the person must be blind as a bat...

Probably make ME blind as a bat if I had to be in front of it for too long!

Also same stupid high K rating. Well, I'm assuming it's HID. Could just be DAMN bright blueish bulbs...but either way, it's TOO bright and that person should be shot! :bang

Passed by the shop a couple days ago and snapped a couple pictures of the kit. Thought I would just throw them up here.
