Scary stuff.... I'm glad they're finally doing something about it instead of blaming it on the floor mats alone. That 911 call with the Lexus posted a while back freaked me right out.

See...there's a neutral position on the gearshift for a reason. I had a stuck throttle on my parent's CR-V one day. Just hit the brakes hard and slapped it into N. Accident avoided.

Yeah seriously eh? It's amazed me why people don't do that. Unless... if you slap it into neutral and it still goes... Or, worse comes to worse, throw the thing into P. Sure, your engine may be trashed, but it's worth it to save your life, no?

Also, I'm curious to know which Lexus models are affected.

Apparently Toyota are sending notices to their customers to bring their cars in for repair. They are placing a steel bar under the pedal to restrict the distance it can go down. One customer went in, was at the dealership for his repair and drove through the front entrance of the dealership. :chuckle

not a big hit at all.

smart actually.

the recall is on the very popular vehicles in the lineup, so they need to get the cars that are ON THE ROAD FIXED FIRST, then deal with the new sale vehicles, and production vehicles.

imagine going to your dealer and them saying, no sorry we dont have the part, because there currently going into 2010's at the factory, that would just be bad service.

i work at one of the best toyota dealerships in ontario,if not THE. and were not taking a hit :D

i work at the toyota plant in cambridge, and it took the QC guys over a week to figure out what the problem was. They couldn't replicate it on brand new cars, used cars, or even cars that had the gas pedal stick. So the fix isn't replacing something (they don't know what to replace) they're just adding another part to ensure the pedal doesn't stick.

i'm security.
my advice: park near the back and walk father, otherwise you're gonna be waiting 15 minutes to leave after your shift.

Do you know when the dealers will start implementing the the part? My parents have an 09, and I don't think they've been notified to go in yet.

car and driver has some good editorials on this whole mess (basically putting a chunk of the blame on the majority of toyota owners that treat their cars as appliances and who blame their lack of driving skills on the car) (http://blog.caranddriver.com/prius-next-up-for-recall-hysteria-could-corolla-be-next-editorial/)
