Prefer the old style. This new style doesn't have enough contrast and just looks washed out. Sorry...don't like it.

Nope, not yet. Just logged on and haven't played around yet. In fairness, I should probably say my initial impression of the default settings is not positive, but I'll refer full judgement until I play around with the settings... In any case, the change isn't anything I detest and that would stop me from coming here, much to the chagrin of many I am sure... :)

i like the new layout but its missing something, the tittle of the thread should be bold if their has been a new post and if its the same then it should be unbold, does anyone know what i mean?

It's going to take some getting used to but overall the carbon look is a very nice touch. Not feeling the other two. But that's just my opinion. Great job Ryan :)

The new skin *looks* better.... but I think the old was is (was?) easier for navigation. For example, the search results screen is way too cluttered. It is hard to quickly scan an pick out the topic headings... The icons that matter (eg. "first unread post") are miniscule and relatively hard to hit with the mouse cursor, while there is a huge real-estate-sucking that isn't clickable and doesn't have any discernable purpose. (Yeah, there are different colours, but unless someone tells you what the colours mean they aren't helpful. If an icon isn't immediately isn't understandable without needing a glossary then it has failed).

Running darkvision right now. Still prefer the old version. Contrast was just right and it was easy to tell when a new post had been added to a thread.
I don't like the new look at all..

a bit harder to get used to where things are but i like it. specially love the whats new part and that you can mark them all as read when you want and it dosent do it by itself like the old one.

I don't like it at all. It is hard to read and very bright and as mentioned the colours all contrast together. I have to adjust my brightness when I go to the site now.

I just figured out how to change to Carbon which does make it a bit less bright than the default setting.

I used carbon for a bit but after a while it gets too bright too. So now I'm using the darkvision.

Its alright i suppose, i defintely liked the old setup, as it was much easier to find things, now i find the colours kind of run together and its difficult to distinguish between things, but im sure i will get used to it eventually, im using carbon, pretty cool look overall.

I like it, being in the industry (web development) I know how much work probably went into it and I can assure you guys it's most likely not going back. I am sure the admin team had their reasons for going to this method and eventually we will all get used to it.
I am using Carbon now.

I like it but it needs to be cleaned up a little as far as the looks go. like the quick box should be centered and smaller, simple things like that over all A+ ( let us have choice to change colors instead of blue i want smoke or black)

Yeh, well I do UI design as well. And I know how much effort it takes to design a good interface.
As I said earlier... this version *looks* a lot better. But as far as usability goes... it blows chunks. There is no clear demarcation between elements. Icons are too small. Fonts are too small. Text boxes are too small (in both directions!). Etc. etc. I really hate web sites that put appearance first and usabiltiy second. </rant off>

I agree 100% as to the programming. Unless someone is able to completely rebuild this thing which won't be easy, we have to work with what we got. Over time we can update/change things that are annoying or make things difficult to read. The UI is built by VB developers and we can only do so much with it. They still have a lot to fix functionality wise but there's nothing we can do about that.
Programming is not my first line of work but I do what I can. The VB programming isn't as simple as you might think. It has also changed for V4. If there is anything you can do to help me with the templates I would appreciate it. Shoot me a PM if you want.

Hey Ami, I am always happy to help! Beyond just poking holes in things that is! :)
How about this: I am going to play around with site a while and see where where I think the functionality could be improved, and why I believe the "improvement" would make the site more usable. I'll try it with Firefox, IE, etc. and at different resolutions.
(Eg. at 800 x 600 the body of the message text ends up being about 20% the width of the screen, with remaing 80% being white space)
...I'll post up my thoughts and see what everyone else thinks about them.....
