I was at the dealer getting my new car and the lady tried to sell me this thing that plugs into the battery and prevents rust. I'm guessing it uses some sort of sacrificial anode. Do these things work? Will the bottom of my car stay rust free if i get one? Or is it better to spend $100 a year on the oil spray?

Don't get it. My buddy got sold on this by his dealer. He some how got a nasty stone chip on his roof which rusted like a mofo. So, his dealer ended up repainting his entire roof skin (twice) under warranty. If you get anything, get the rubberized black rust coating. Knock on wood, this is what I have and I don't have any rusting (yet).

yeah.. it seems like the cars that don't rust with these devices probably wouldn't have rusted anyways. My moms 02 Corolla has one of these one it and there's no rust. But i've read enough online to see that it doesn't help everyone. It's sort of a gamble.

If you are planning on using your car for Ocean travel, then it will work wonders. If not, then not so much. i.e. total scam on cars, but works well on seafaring vessels.

Unless the electric field somehow repels stones I can't see how this would work. I don't think anyone's been able to prove that electrical systems like this work unless you actually submerge the metal in salt water.
