View Full Version : Touchless car wash ripped my front plate off...

Just a minor rant against touchless car washes... was at the Petro-Can on Airport Rd. to use their touchless carwash (which I usually avoid), but I was pretty desperate to get rid of all the salt and grime. Got back home to Ave/Eg, parked my car and realized something didn't look quite normal... oh right, my front license plate was gone.
Called the Petro-Can as soon as I could and sure enough... license plate in the carwash. At least it was kind enough to leave the license plate bracket on my car. :bang
/end rant.

It was the PetroCan closest to the International Centre.
I usually frequent this do-it-yourself place at Hurontario and Central Parkway... who knew that the one day I went touchless, I'd lose a plate haha.

I don't recommend it.... I was cringing the entire time that I was going through the wash... this one felt particularly rough/abusive. Never again.

Don't get turned off by touchless washes. Sunoco ecowash is decent.

Ive used the Sunoco Ecowash, the Canadian Tire (Simoniz, IIRC), and the Esso touchless wash. All 3 of those seem very similar, and I think do a pretty good job considering what it is.

I went to Glide (Petro) did one care with cloth and one car with touch-free, both were decently washed. But it's incomparable to Sunoco I'd say. Sunoco is cleaner and the car is actually somewhat dry when you leave.

+1 on ecowash. Sucks about what happened to your plate though.
While coin-op/ do it yourself is best, sometimes its just out of convenience lol.
I acutally happened to use ecowash today.. it missed the stuff under my hatch spoiler though :@ but i guess thats understandable LOL.

car washes always miss the little bit under the spoiler on the hatch :(. Ones where you park the car and the car wash just wraps around your car (laserwash?) clean the best for touchless imo, but still leave a bit under the spoiler unwashed. Toucheless washes that use a rail system doesn't even clean the hatch of my trunk very well, always and up with dirt on the trunk (I have a CWP hatch so its real obvious) so I like to avoid those and use a laserwash when I go through an automatic wash.

Where are these laserwash ones? I've never been.

+1....I have the glide wash pass at Petro and the back is always dirty. They have written somewhere that if your car isn't clean after you can go again. So I called them on it last week and i'm going to do it again today :) .....twice through gives a nice wash LOL

^ If the back is never clean, maybe you should take the car in once forward, then once in reverse.

^^^ The area around the trunk on the sedans never get cleaned properly either. I always ask for a second wash if it doesn't go through properly.
I haven't been to a sunnoco wash in years, maybe i'll give that a try again.

Probably still won't be clean, I've been through the Petro twice in a row cause it wasn't clean and the portion under the hatch spoiler still doesn't get cleaned

Looking forward to the days of summer when I can just wash my car in the driveway... :)

I hate touchless carwashes. Never really clean my car properly. Or dry it for that matter. I like using the ones that actually touch your car *although I may use one twice a year* and luckily no scratches thus far. Usually for me it is Coin-Op in the winter and wash it in my driveway like twice a week in the summer lol.

+1 for touchless Sunoco Ecowash...I don't like touchless, but sunoco is best IMO. I NEVER EVER use softcloth... I never use the brush at coin op either. I prefer a driveway 2 bucket wash personally! Coin ops I save for winter exclusively.

I go to the same one.....but not the cleanest, and the drying time is too short....like 1 minute only..always leave watermark. At least I'm able to redeem free wash with my airmiles.

Having a standard car, I find touchless w. rails (my favourite thus far is Shell) is the best way to get my car dryest. Still doesn't get it completely dry, but it's definitely better than trying to do it in a standard car in under a minute. I'm on winter steelies so I don't care that I'm in the rail. Just...open your doors after the wash and clean up the tiny bit of soap that gets pressured in (not into the car, between the door and the running board) during the wash.
