Personally I love it, and am considering getting it for the 3...
It's just 2 pieces that attach, sort of like adding a lip to the front, which I already have. I hate the back end of my hatch, and this has been the only one I've seen that I actually really like.

Decisions, decisions... when is spring coming???

I think JohnyGT has these. I'm not a big fan of these, but with your gv lip they might add good balance between the height of the front and rear.

Exactly what I was thinking, which is also why I don't like the back end. It's not level to me, and it irritates me. :)

Reason I switched to speed rear bumper was because I did not like the 04-06. Just to add the rear flares. :)

This will accomplish the same look. It will look SICK!

My biggest gripe with this piece is the fact that it creates a lip on the bumper that wasn't already there.

I dunno if this is the same piece:

but personally that part made me a little sad.

I really don't know if it's the same one, but I think it's similiar! Hmm, I might need to do some work to it for proper fitment.

I've got a set coming. The are made by Grip. Got a fairly good deal by buying them directly from a dealer in NY (cheaper than Grip).

I'm going to do CF highlights on 16W flares. The same with the GV front lip that I have yet to order.

I'll be curious to see how it fits. Can you perhaps put them on before painting and stuff, just so I can see fitment. That would be super awesome. I checked out the GRIP website, same price as eBay. Where is this dealer in NY you speak of. SECRETS!!! LOL :):):)

Unless you have some sort of side skirt add-ons, it totally looks out of place...that s why it s best to go OEM :)

The fitment is not exact since these were molded from the originals that were for the sedans. AFAIK, the black seam is foam, two-way tape.

Ya the black was mounting tape.

I originally bought a set of OEM ones, and they were nothing but another skin. No style whatsoever.

The ones in the white hatch pic are not the same. The Grip flares do not flare out as aggressively.

I kinda like the Grips myself, to each his own I guess.

As for the black seam, I have a 16W car, so some of Pete's joint sealer should do the trick.

... and to Crystal484, simply call up the guy who's on eBay (bmcextremecustoms) and set up a deal off of eBay - he knocks about $10-$15 off, sends it via USPS so as to save the rip-off courrier surcharges at our end, and lowers the declared value. It helps with the shipping costs.

that pic of tokic_o's car is without his side skirts maybe thats why you think its horrible .. but after installing it looks 10x better then before ! : ) flows amazing and makes the rear look alot lower ! i have these rear flare add on from peter as well and fits really well and looks amazing, personally think it looks better than the orange one ! if your goin to invest in a set of rear flare cyrstal go with the same ones as tokic_o ! you will not be disappointed !!!! and the black seam is a weather strip you need to put when installing the flares ..

One thing Crystal, mine will be on a black mica hatch. I believe you have the purple-people-eater car. :chuckle

Anyway, I just corresponded with the states and the whole northeast was shut down for almost a week because of snow (You do remember what that looks like?)

Not a fan unless you've got a good side skirt with it.

IMHO I think its to bulky and sticks out to much, just get an MS3 rear bumper which will look the business.

I received mine on Friday.

Here's some pics of a test fit. There are no gaps and the are a perfect fit.

The test fit only included peeling back about 1" of 3M tape at each end on the top edge. You can see the red #M backing sticking out on pic #1. The flares require two screws that secure to the inner fender well as denoted by small depressions in the mold.

The screws were not used in this test fit, so therefore the flare is hanging and not completely tucked into the wheel well about another 1/2".

Side view:

http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/tt132/mazdilla/rear_flares001.jpg

Rear view:

http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/tt132/mazdilla/rear_flares002.jpg

Top view:

http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/tt132/mazdilla/rear_flares003.jpg

Here's how the rear flares and side skirts match up.

http://i605.photobucket.com/albums/tt132/mazdilla/rear_flares_sideskirts.jpg

Critique:

1) I think the 3M tape is too close to the top edge as it can bee seen from the top view, I may remove and then replace it a little lower so that the flare is against the body along the top edge. If not, I'll use a gasket if it's small enough.

2) I believe that I can use 3M tape (instead of screws) on the inside of the fender well also during final install.

3) Because the tires still stick out as viewed in the rear pic, I'll still need mud flaps if I don't want road rash or chips on them. I wonder if Rallye Armor flaps will work with these?

4) The flares have a lower profile (ground clearance) than the OEM side skirts. I have a set of vented skirts that will fit nice with these flares.

5) The curvature appears to be the same curvature as the GV front lip, so that would be a match. I pick that up on Friday when I see Pete.

Other:

* The car gets the Eibach Pro Kit, MS3 RSB, Eibach FSB, and end links installed next week.
* I have other wheels. Black/machined lip with 215/40/R17 unidirectional tires.

Overall, I'm satisfied.

yearoftherat
03-07-2010, 02:46 PM
Fitment look pretty good Marc.

In regards to your question about fitting Rally Armors, you will have to remove the flares to drill out two existing rivets that are located in the wheel well and then drill holes in the flares to match up to the holes that were once where the rivets were.

That looks sharp.

I think so as well. Not too gaudy like some kits and flares that I've seen out there.

Of course the ground effects will be painted to match the car.... probably pink, orange, or even chartreuse. ;-)

But seriously, I need some Rallye Armor flaps in black with red or metallic grey lettering. The colour of the lettering will ultimately decide the pin stripe highlights that I plan for the car, but i think I prefer red. Anyone have a set of four to unload?

What did you use to black it out? I used Safetape from Canadian Tire and it looks really good. As well, it still maintains reflectivity at night so it does not compromise safety.
