Ok here's the thing especially in the winter with the snow tires, and when starting on an uphill, unless I "crawl" I get the most annoying wheel hop. Now I know the best thing I can do is to change all the mounts but I can't live with that full on vibration. I can live with some vibration so I'm considering which route to go. What I'd like to know is which one will be most effective in reducing wheel hop? I have a friend who's a mechanic for VW who's telling me that I should start with the transmission mount first, and I've had some people on here who have told me that I should go engine mount. So what do you say?
replace the rear mount, CPE makes awesome ones. the only thing is if its wet/snowy you could end up just spinning your tires instead of wheel hoping, but i find spinning them is less annoying then hoping around, maybe less wear too?

It almost sounds like your stock mounts are worn out. I would say rear motor mount. My AWR made a pretty big difference.

rear engine mount. alleviates the majority of the wheel hop and is the quickest to change if you don't like the vibrations.
rear mount + Engine Torque Damper = no more wheel hop. once an ETD is installed, you can just remove the damper if there are times when you don't want the vibes (i.e. transporting parents or the elderly) all without having to jack up the car. i have an ETD that i'll be posting for sale eventually if you're interested :)

oh, the other thing i'd have checked on your car is the passenger side mount. yours could be blown which is what is causing the wheel hop. my old 3 had that wheel hop problem as well and it was the passenger side mount. the stock rear and transmission mounts were fine (and this was after 170,000 kms and a few lapping days).

i hope my mounts are all pooched already the car has only 23,000 on it and is just over 1 year old. I took it in for it's 1 year service at MOT and they didn't say anything. The thing is that it's been doing it since brand new. The recall for the engine mound should have been over before my model year I'm driving a 2008

if all stock mounts are good, try the rear mount first. if that doesn't work well, slap an ETD on it :)

It should but I don't think there's anything wrong with them. I think that they are just mush from the factory to start off with
