So, I've washed my car THREE times now. Once through an actual car wash, and twice at the coin-op and this damn sludge/oil/grease/dirt/CEMENT for all I know will not come off. It is better than what it first was I will admit...

Can anyone suggest a good cleaner that will hopefully take it off??? I only know of GOO GONE and that's never worked well on my cars when I've used it. Grr. Having a white car with that nasty black sludge makes Crystal an angry girl!!

Its common with white cars. Have you tried actually scrubbing it off? A lot of times a touchless carwash would not wash that off. You need an actual mitt to scrub it off

clay bar might work, noh?

yeah you might want to try taking a mitt to it with some car wash soap i had the same thing on my old car and it took a whole lot of gentle scrubbing and quick detailer but it came off

you can also try some bug and tar remover!

Don't scrub it!!! You might move the dirt particles around and create swirls... use a clay bar in the spring. That should do it (hopefully)... that sucks though, do you think it's cement????

Ahh I'm thinking iit's not cement because it has been coming off and it's not gritty. It's definitely some type of oil/grease. I just tried to take some off with my finger, and it's almost a little sticky (minds out of gutters please! HA!) I must have driven through something on the road.

GAH, I just want this crap off. It will definitely need to be detailed come spring time.

It's got to be grease, I've had that happen where you drive through it somewhere. Pick up some degreasing formula like simple green something that won't damage paint from canadian tire. As someone else had said don't move it around because particles in the grease could move around with your scrubbing which will damage paint/clearcoat.

Thanks everyone!! I'll see what I can come up with. I'll keep you all posted on this cleaning mission!

Perhaps some mud flaps - just for the remainer of winter.. Hmm.

It looks like grease...Your best bet would be to hand wash your car and it should come right out...but if your like me and have the water off during the winter months at your haouse then take your car to a detail shop and have them hand wash it...In Belleville you can get a hand was for $10 at a local detail shop

One simple solution I didn't think of was some regular liquid dish washing soap like Dawn. It has some degreaser and is gentle. It my do the trick. Get a really warm bucket of water with a high concentration of the soap and that might just do the trick. Just be gentle on the paint!

I think your original solution, Simple Green, will get that right off. Might even want to dilute it to 50/50 water.

I 2nd the dawn dish soap... once that crap is gone, rewax the area REAL good so nothing sticks to it again!

Simple Green Automotive not diluted will not harm the paint surface. Just spray it on let it sit for a few seconds and use a brush to agitate it and it should be gone.

Hey gang,
So I got all that crap off. Took me a good 30 minutes to get off the dirt. It was definitely road grease of some kind, but some warm water and palmolive did the trick :D
But man, looking up close at my car makes me realize how in rough shape she really is :(:(

Spring time I think a serious detail is in order, and finally need my rust issues fixed. *tear*

Have you try Johnson Baby oil/lotion. I think it will remove it.

Its sad to get up close, the first spring hand wash is always the worst. You see new scratches, new rust spots.

We all know the feeling.
