Mazda specifiies 5w20 oil. in the Mazda 3 If I use 5w30 would that adversally affect the warranty?

No. You're actually better off running a 5W-30 or 0W-30 weight oil in the 3 which is the european specs for this car.

In your manual it says if you can't find 5w20 then run 5w30
I personaly run 5w30..i never liked the idea of running such a thin oil(5w20)

I have got Oakville Mazda to install synthetic 0W30 oil on my last two oil changes and they had no issues whatsoever doing so. Do some research on the different oil types (this forum is a great place to get started) and decide what's best for you and your car.
The dealer wouldn't do it if it was going to void a warranty.

To meet stricter NA fuel economy restrictions and classifications primarily. The thinner the oil, the better fuel economy your car will achieve in most 'typical' cases.
