Hi, I'm a total noob at cars, so I wouldn't be able to cut my own emblem =P
Sooo, as I'm waiting for an opportunity to show up to buy the Evil M.
How can I make it pink? I'm pretty sure it's a common sense question, lol, but what do I have to buy?
And if it's "car paint", then what will I use to paint the emblem?
I hope I make sense, lol :loco
The emblem will be on a white Mazda3 GX 2010

Cutting is not hard. Get a saw and cut the bottom and top part off and sand it down to how you like it. As for the fairy pink, i think it's a little light on a white car. I'd try to find something a little darker or a hotter pink so that it shows up a bit more on your car unless you like this pink. Im sure if u go canadian tire, or part source you can find the paint. Go to Napa Auto parts, they have like a crap load of pink in different shades. It'll cost you about $20-$30 a can but you can make the exact colour you want.
Just make sure you put on a layer or two of clear coat afterwards to protect the paint from chipping off from stones

I thought you don't need a primer on Krylon fusion.

that looks sick, lovin the pink 'M' but personally i like hot pink better, and im sure itd have a sweet kick on a white car,
lol i wanna do my batmanized 'M' in red soon but im also scared to cut it, oh well im gonna anyways,
but uh arent you supposed to bleach the chrome off your emblems before painting?
mazdaskit
02-20-2010, 10:00 PM
I have the evil M too lol but everyone's forgetting to tell her to bleach it first to get the chrome off of it http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/album.php?albumid=192&attachmentid=1539

I thought about hot pink, but I think it'll look tacky and a normal pink would look too light.
I'd probably end up with a lavender/light purple for the M.
Soo, to do this, I need to take emblem off, then cut it and then bleach the chrome off.
Now is it better to bleach the chrome off before cutting it or after?
After that step's done, I'll paint it with the color I want, and then prime it?

thats a good question, im just gonna assume without the chrome cause the you can cut and sand it all at once
just a guess though, thats how id do it,
and for bleaching i heard it takes a few days, maybe 2-4, changing the bleach a few times a day....
i still think you should go with pink :P
white and pink actually look good together so you just have to find the right colour tone

I thought you don't need a primer on Krylon fusion.

I'd still use it because you're spraying a chrome finished surface

@mazda kitten, where can you get the "Krylon Fusion Fairytale Pink"
Wal Mart, Canadian Tire... just go any where they sell spray paint.

Always Primer before Paint.

I'd still use it because you're spraying a chrome finished surface
But it's not really chrome...just looks like it.
Its still plastic...maybe even tin. But def not chrome.
I honestly think this is all overkill.
Hit up a wrecker or Japanese used autoParts shop
emblem part is less than $20.
Lightly sand with 600 grit paper to remove any surface grit
Soak in nail polish remover/paint thinner
clean with soap and water and let dry
spray with Krylon Fusion and let dry
repeat for 2-3 coats
on the last coat - hit it with a hair dryer, high heat, low fan
Krylon Fusion is designed to adhere to any surface without the use of a paint primer.
Bleach is great to get the item down to bare bones but not necessary for emblems.
Clearcoat is a good idea for the front badge. But don't bother clearcoating the rear emblems unless you drive in reverse at highway speeds.

vinyl seems like it would be more work? having to wrap it in between all the letters and what not... although if done right, itll prolly be quite a bit more durable than paint...
i got "whosit" from omc to cut mine he just used a big knife and cut at the edges on the badge itself...then i painted red, then didnt like red so i went black..

http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt317/jova1987/IMG00056-20100126-0849.jpg
and i might be changing to green soon with my most recent idea for a look(stay tuned for that)
I like vinyl because its more durable and its not that hard to do, plus if I don't like it then I can just take it off. Or when I decide to sell the car just take it off and have it silver again instead of having to replace the emblems.

Vinyl also doesn't fade as easily if at all. My emblems are red but they look a little faded and orangeish on some parts. I clear coated it too. Im too lazy to repaint this year tho. maybe when i really need to do it. Its so much work the way I did mine

03-16-2010, 02:36 PM
its easy to use vinyl only if you have a heat source (hair dryer) but i dont know how you do the letters tho that be hard

hmmm .... now I'm second guessing myself. I'm transforming my emblem into the "evil M" as well and was going to colour the "Mazda 3" and "Axela" badges as well ... maybe it'll just be easier to do paint

hmm, well seeing as how ive never really worked with vinyl im just assuming its hard... but i cant really judge since(again) ive not yet done it...
out of curiousity, how do you wrap it in between the letters and stuff??, does this heat source kindA melt the vinyl so it can contour the letters??
Im confuzzled

i didnt use 2way tape... it holes hold it pretty good without anything...been a year now and not even the slightest indication of the badges moving...
and fyi the reasaon the axela badge is no longer on is cuz its tuff to cut the tape for the letters...
