FYI for everyone with a PS3.

I have had problems since last night. Can't get into PSN at all and certain titles such as Dragon Age won't even load due to lack of synch with the trophy information. I have the same error code as noted in the article.

The latest from Sony...

Latest info on PlayStation Network Status
Posted by Patrick Seybold // Sr. Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media
As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.

We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.

Errors include:

The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following
message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been
signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.
When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears
on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install
trophies. Please exit your game.”
When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the
Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date
and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”
Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the
PlayStation Store before the expiration date.
We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.

As mentioned above, please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologize for any inconvenience caused.

For the latest status on this situation please continue to check either the PlayStation.Blog or PlayStation.com.

Sounds like revenge of the y2k bug!

There has been some talk that the programming in the old systems was incorrect and that it's internal calendar thinks this was supposed to be a leap year date and when pulling timing from the network BITS clock, the fact that it is really March 1st, 2010 and not February 29th, 2010, caused the affected systems to go kaput. Wonder how much of that is really true.

Can't see how that should be true. Trophy info and data is backed up by Sony on network servers independant of our consoles. Even if lost on the console, they should be able to resubmit this info back down and synch it back.

Very recent data for those playing at the time of the crash I can see being lost, but this shouldn't affect other internal memory unless they have other endemic issues and data corruption they are not telling us about. Sounds more like a legal statement to cover themselves from the cases where it may have happened.

In any case, I hope they're wrong about data loss...

I couldn't get any trophies to load...no biggie...

But all my downloaded games aren't working right...Critter Crunch can't see its own saved games (you'd think it'd be locally stored)...I can't even load SF-HD Remix. I don't care about trophies...well, I do, a bit...but I'm more worried I have to redownload some games...

Update: PlayStation Network Is Working Again, You Can Turn On Your Fat PS3 Now
After Sony's warning, the PlayStation Network seems to be back online and fully operational, according to reader Larry Gallant:

I wanted to let you guys know that the phat PS3s are now able to login to the Playstation network and the clocks are working. I was able to login at 6:28 PM eastern time in the Boston, MA USA area.

No official word from Sony yet, however, so proceed with caution.

Have you been able to connect to the network? Tell us in the comments. [Thanks Larry]

I had 360 at first, it just caused me problems. RROD. Than got it modded, and than I got 3 Red Lights after a power surge. So I went out and bought a PS3. My 360 is just collecting dust.

I'll admit however, after playing on 360 with alot of cheaters on MDW2. It helped me alot on PS3.
