Ok I've decided to bite the bullet and get a helmet for when I snowboard, trying to wade through all the information on the 'Interwebs' I've been looking at these 3 any comments or suggestions? anyone have these?

I have a Bern, it's awesome.

Got it last year at Jay Perk, VT. Dirt cheap compared to our Canadian prices.

I'm hoping that it's late enough in the season where there will be some good clear out deals. But yeah I've been looking at the U.S sites and some of there prices are as much as 50% cheaper for the same model here. I might just go to some ski shops in the area, for fitting and sizing sake and if they can't get me a good deal just use that info and order them online.

I like the look of the K2 one a lot, and I've already got a K2 board which I'm happy with, but I kind of like the fact that you can adjust the Giro's vents without taking the helmet off.

I haven't been boarding in forever so I never did start using a helmet. If I start going again on a regular basis I will probably pick one up. The K2 one doesn't look too bad.

the K2 I like too because if you look at the construction of it, it's made of the same stuff as the more expensive helmets. Plus it comes in a plain white which will make it easier for me to customize/airbrush if I want to in the summer

I use a Giro G10...then thru some US website, I also found the SkullCandy ear-pads for them for like $15USD shipped...

now I wonder how I skied all those ears just listening to the wind...

I also hard-mounted the Go-Pro camera to my helmet...

How do you find the fit of the g10? I usually have long hair so i'm wondering if it offers enough adjustment to deal with that? Also I see online that people say it is pretty warm, but most of them are saying that cold is -2 F, there are times when I ski when it is -20F or more do you find it still warm then?

I'm usually busy trying to help out my friends who are learning, so I don't usually listen to music while I ride. That's something else I'll have to look into. Which helmet has the most accessories for it.

I also wear a Giro G10. The helmet is fairly warm, but opening up the vents helps with air flow. As well, I like being able to adjust the vents without taking the helmet off.

I've got a Bern Baker. Oddly enough it doesn't have vents but is breathable. Wore it all day a few weeks ago without any issues.

The fit is ok...I have an irregular shaped head (I think everyone does, actually, but that another convo) so it doesn't fit perfectly, but the removable liner is plush enough. and removable is key for cleaning. I also wear an UnderArmor sweat beanie, and a thin fleece cap underneath the helmet sometimes...

I gave up helping others and now ski solo mostly...I can usually double the amount of runs I do that way...but as I get older, I might pick up "helping others" to help myself catch my breath...lol...

I have a G10 as well...Personally, I find next to no difference whether the vents are open or closed (maybe that's just me). As for warmth...I have the one with the thin ear pads (there are different thickness) and I've skied -30C and lower weather (that's not factoring in the windchill from actually skiing down the hill, so it's way colder than that) and I've had no problem with head warmth. I never had warmth issues for anything other than hands/feet and at times frontal face, so I'm probably not the best guy to go by.

I have the Red Shawn White Collection.... Bought it based solely on comfort. It seemed to fit the best on my huge melon.

Red and Giro don't fit me, Smith has some AWESOME helmets (Holt, Variant and Hustle) that fit great though. Alas, only ugly colours were left here and I needed one ASAP. Ended up with a Salomon Ranger. Not too much cash, but fits great has adjustable vents, and saved my head at least once in the past 2 months without any damage.

I always say go for something with vents that are adjustable on the hill. Rather be able to adjust as needed on the hill than have to go inside and get something to block them.

Go to a local shop or even a box store and try some on before you order. One you set on may not fit well at all. Sport Check and Sport Mart both carry Giro and K2.

thanks a lot guys, it seems like the G10 is getting a lot of play so I think I'll try it out. I usually get all my snowboard stuff at "The sign of the skiier" they really seem to know there stuff, especially when it comes to fitment. When I got my boots there they molded them and heated them up to conform to my feet.

I think you should also make sure that the helmet you choose is eps foam and not brock foam as it is meant to take multiple impacts. Fit is extremely important and go with whatever feels snug.

I use to have a red helmet but have move on to giro. Either way I find helmets a bit goofy looking on me .. But it the norm now on hills and manitory in most parks.

I never wore a helmet until this season. My bro and sis got new gear and they both got helmets as well and so we got me a helmet as well...otherwise I wouldn't have spent the money because I have no money to spend. Thankfully I haven't had to have it save my melon yet and hopefully never will, but on those nasty weather days (freezing rain/sleet/etc.) it's nice to have.

I have a Giro g10 i highly recommend it. ITs really comfortable compared to other buckets i have tried and it keeps my head and ears quite warm on those windy runs... it also has vents to help you cool off when you do get too hot. overall i give it a 9/10.

I got the smith holt with audio this season. http://www.backcountry.com/outdoorgear/SMI0494/Smith-Holt-Skullcandy-Audio-Helmet.html

Fits good, looks alright, and has built in audio speakers which are sweet. It comes with a volume control and quick mute button controller which clips onto my jacket. I don't have to fiddle around with my ipod at all.

I've used the protec B2 in the past but wanted a helmet with some audio built in. The berns with the large brims look pretty cool but a lot of those styles don't meet safety standards...they're very low profile and look exactly like ball caps.

I've got a Red Mutiny II only helmet I could find that fit over my head/hair and didn't look stupid.

ok so I picked up the helmet today! I went with the Giro g10 in gray it fit my head well, and was super light and comfortable. Picked it up at the Sign of the skiier along with a leash, mine broke on my last time out. Thanks again for all your help guys.

if you dont mind me asking how much did you pay for the g10 at the sign of the skier

I think it was $129 +tax, which was pretty close to what they were going for in the states $109 avg factor in exchange and shipping and it wasn't a bad deal. Especially when it fits, I tried some other ones that they had there and the lower end ones $40 - $50 were heavier and didn't have anything to help fit the helmet to your head. the g10's headband fits me perfectly
