Hey everyone. I think the search function might not be working properly for me because I searched wheel wax and nothing came up.

Maybe not, I don't really know. But I was thinking of waxing or sealing my rims (stock snowflakes but oh well lol) before I make the switch this spring. Any recommendations? What to use or methods, or any other tricks of the trade that you guys have come across? It'd be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Any wax would work

As aristeidis said,

Any car paint wax will do. I recommend to clay bar it first and remove all contaminants first just as you would treat your vehicles paint.

I used Poorboys wheel sealant last summer, and was very pleased. Made cleaning the rims, much much easier.

any idea if this will work on powdercoated rims with no clearcoat? Sounds like it might mess it up hmmm

You should be fine on the powdercoated non clear wheels.

Any paint sealer works really good. I use Meguiers Nxt2 Tech wax.

What S.F.W. said, it makes cleaning them easier.

True but some just to be safe incase the chemicals are harsh enough to kill the powdercoat

the Poorboys sealant specifically says, safe for all finishes.

I plan to wax my new wheels this year, i couldnt believe how caked on the dirt was when i took my stock alloys off the car at the end of last summer it was crazy, had to scrub those bad boys to get um clean. Glad to hear i can just use the same sort of wax as i use on the car, makes things easier forsure

Actually I went to CT the other day, and they had no Wheel wax there. But as per other people's suggestions I guess any wax can be used.

I'd actually recommend either of the Collinites, as they'll do just as good, and you can use them on paint as well. :)

Hey guys,

So based on your recommendations, I've decided to go with a regular car wax, and use it for my wheels. I've been looking around at the Carnuaba waxes from Mothers and meguiars' gold class paste wax. Any recommendations? I've heard some are better for certain colour cars, light vs. dark, I have a CWP 3. But honestly, I'm so confused. So many products out there, such a range in prices. What do you guys think? I'd appreciate any advice or even just tell me which one to get!!! lol

Thanks

By the way, I forgot to mention, I will be using the wax for my car as well lol I suppose its a given. And I will be doing it by hand. I don't have any motorized polishers.........other than my arms powered by a little (or a lot) of elbow grease!!!

Don't bother with Canadian Tire. Go to Nextmod. The only reason why people haven't gotten on the boutique bandwagon was due to the shipping that they'd have to pay from before. But now that Nextmod's stocking this stuff, there's no more reason to not pony up the extra $2-3 for a far superior product.

Either of the collinite waxes or wheel wax will be far better than NXT or Gold Class. They are literally, light and day different in terms of how much better those boutique waxes are vs OTC products.

Hmmm, sounds good. I just posted in the recent NextMod thread regarding cleaning products to see if Peter had any other "boutique style" waxes.

I only recommend Collinite and Poorboy's wheel wax because Peter stocks them now. I used to only suggest these items, as I know they're a ways pricier than stuff that's locally available, but now that you can save on shipping, its a no-brainer. I'll be RECOMMENDING this stuff front, left and center from here on out.

Hey all,

Sorry BMWWW, I had to go for the CT wax, Gold Class liquid is on sale for half price. 10.50 from 20.99. I picked up some if this and tried it on the snowflakes and they came out awesome. They're as smooth as silk!!!! Super slippery lol I couldn't resist the $10.50 pricetag. Tight for cash anyways. Seemed like the right choice for now. (Paste wax and car wash is also on sale)

I took some pics and I will post them later tonight. They don't do justice though. Aristeidis, how did you get pics that showed the reflections of the rims so well!? What camera did you use? I have a canon SD1000.

For what its worth, I gave away my gold class paste for free. It just doesn't last long enough on paint--which means that at most, it'll last even less on wheels.

Update this thread with how long that stuff lasts for. I watched the video, and I'd bet that the very same wheel will do the same with a fresh seal/wax. But what sets apart the many available waxes/sealants is the durability. I'll give you a call when I next detail a car, and let you test some of my stuff out. I've converted many before. :)

NO wax will last very long on your rims...with all the hot brake dust and the amount of heat that comes from the brakes it's not going to last

I use that too and applied a fresh coat today. It has a very awkward smell to it. I might consider selling it.
