Will an aftermarket exhaust affect an emissions test?

Will an aftermarket exhaust affect an emissions test?

Not really. As long as everything else is working properly it should be fine.

You need to worry more about the CAT and aftermarket headers.

yea, like Ryan said. A lot of exhausts that we get are either cat back or axleback (not sure if anyone has an axleback here) but most of us have a stock cat. So you should be fine. If you had a vibrant, your stock secondary cat is replaced by a high flow cat but you still have your primary cat so you should be good

I wish I knew what that meant lol! I'm sorry, I'm a HUGE noob when it comes to cars. I really don't know much at all.

Funny story, My MSP actualy just failed en Etest this past saturday.
The HC reading was over the limit.
I guess thats what i get for buying a car Mazda didnt tune right in the first place haha
But Im the one to blame, im running a Vibrant Turboback exhaust with highflow cat. So i should have seen it coming.
All stock sensors were in proper placing, the car just runs way rich.

He is talking about the Catalytic converters. Our cars have 2, and a lot of cat-back exhausts remove the 2nd catalytic converter. However, assuming everything else is fine on your car, you should be able to pass e-test with only 1 catalytic converter.

Ah, is there a specific reason why the aftermarket exhausts remove the second cat?

Not really. They are called Cat-Back exhaust for a reason. You change the parts AFTER the cat (hence cat-BACK). Only the vibrant exhaust I believe comes with a high flow cat for you to replace your secondary cat with. Otherwise majority of us are running the stock catalytic converters

There is a thread where everyone posted their emissions test results and the type of mods. Mine passed with flying cars with a Vibrant CBE

My car failed with my Header/HKS but my only remaining High Flow cat was pooched. So I got a new one and passed quite well.

As well as Corksport and I believe you can also get a Magnaflow that removes the second cat.

Good to know since I have the Vibrant Header and Exhaust. I don't have to do emissions for a while still, though, as my car is an '06.

Only if you deleted the cat would u need to worry about that. Most performance exhaust has a cat converter to reduce emissions, now if you made a custom pipe and deleted the cat then good luck!

Timbit, your MSP most likely failed because of your leak (why your car pops and backfires so much). The A/F are all over the place. Plus, all those backfires may have burnt your cat as well.

Hopefully I can get an eTest done this weekend and let you all know how I fared. Of course, it would be nice if I can figure out what kind of aftermarket exhaust system is on this car, and who made it.
