View Full Version : FML...I semi-caved to Rogers, and upgraded...

I caved-in...I realized I can't really curb my internet usage...HD movies are addictive...

I avg about 120GB a month, and have hit over 250GB/month before...lol...and on Extreme @ $59.99, I've hit the cap several times and ended up @ $84.99.

So I called today to upgrade to Extreme Plus with a 125GB cap...for $69.99...the shocker was that I need a new modem...FML...

I hate dealing with their CSR's, so I always escalate...and after checking with tech, they confirmed my Motorola Surfboard is no good...this was a modem that I bought, and ran for prolly like 8+yrs now...

After some discussing, I told her I didn't want to spend $200 on the spot to give them an extra $10/month...she came back with the offer to offset my cable bill by $10 for a yr, but I'll have to foot $7/mos for the rental...

So here's hoping I spend $7/mos to avoid getting hit with $50/mos...and in the meantime, I'll be looking for a DOCSIS2 modem to purchase...

At this point, I asked her if there would be any more considerations if I upgraded to the Ultimate...she then replied I'm basically tapped out on the credit I can get but they'll play ball if/when the time comes...

I know some of you are running Ultimate...any better deals?

on topic...i have bell sympatico ultra and i only do 90GB/mo which is still alot..but 250??? i think they should offer unlimited bandwidth cap

If you switched to Extreme Plus your gonna get a SMCD3GN modem and ALSO they are gonna ding you more for their modem rental fee...crappy modem in my books for sure.

the way I see it, with ultimate, you get the greater speed which causes you to hit your cap faster...then you're guaranteed to pay the over usage fee...which @ $25 is NOT BAD for umlimited BUT @ $50...that's outrageous...

but regardless, I'm paying $77 for 125gb cap (hope to stay within it)...if I go to ultimate...it'll be like guranteed $150+ for unlimited with the faster speeds...that's 2x what I plan to spend...

btw...a blu-ray rip is like 8gb...sometimes 14gb...

Move to a Cityplace condo and you can get Telus Internet for $50 for Unlimited at 100mbps.

i dont know if this is helpful but last year there was a deal with rogers where you buy the modem kit for $99, and they would credit you the $99 plus give you a router. saving 4 bucks a month off modem rental fee bs

you can get any deal you want if you tell them to transfer you through to someone who can help explain the cancellation procedures :)
