big +1 here!
I've had Wolf Blass Yellow Label Merlot before and it was quite good. Really oaky but like SKYMP3 it's all preference.

The french (well most european wines) are having a problem selling overseas, especially with the comparatively strong Euro, so a lot of them have really dropped their prices. There are some french wines that were selling for $30-$40 3 years ago that would just be in and around the $20 range this year. Oh and by the way #6 on your list unless it's a typo chardonay is a white wine not a red. I am a bit of a vinophile, and have a pretty complex/bold palatte so what I consider "good" might be to much for you. Remember with most of these vintage wines to get the most enjoyment out of them you should open the bottle either an hour or two before drinking so it can breathe, or decant it if you would rather not wait.
I will post up some name's when I get home and have a chance to look at the bottle's again

I find many Ontario wines are bottled too early. As a result you end up with an overly tanic wine. You can find some gems, but typically those are easier to find at the winery, then the LCBO.
If you enjoy wine, I highly recommend making one trip to Niagra on The Lakw, and one trip to Prince Edward county.
Look beyond the very large high voluke wineries. Rather look at the smaller quality focused wineries.
If you want speicifc recomendarions, let me know.

I'm a bit biased being from portugal to the portuguese wines, most wines from Portugal will be in the $20 range, besides the ports which are not table wines, look for DOC on the bottle (their version of VQA), the best wine from portugal comes from a region called "Alentejo" if its from portugal and it says DOC and "Alentejo" on it you've got a winner. Again like most European wines let it breathe before drinking!
Oh and I think Ami would qualify as a "wino" too seems to know his stuff

Thanks, I would classify myself as a "wino", I have attended various tastings over the year, and have had the opportunity to visit the Wineries of Niagra on The Lake, Prince Edward County, Sonoma, and Napa Valley. As well, a few Bodegas in Spain, and a Chianti winery in Sienna.
I plan in the next few years to visit Portugal and Argentina,a nd hopefully Bordeaux to taste some additional local flavours. Beyond that, perhaps the Sommelier program at Humber.
Oh, and I have a small collection of ~25 wines.

The spanish Riojas are great, and not super expensive, I also like italian chianti's but they need time to mature both in the cask and in the bottle. A big tip to all of you wine lovers! Now this is not true of all wines and you can't turn a piece of coal into a diamond this way, so buyer beware, just like in the stock market. There are many "vintages' that are a few years old now 2006-07 that can still be bought relatively cheap because they are not "ready to drink" they haven't fully matured. Now you buy this wine at the cheap price and let it sit in proper storage for up to 10 years. Now say this bottle that you bought happened to have been from a good year and is now sought after, this bottle that you bought for $20 may now sell for $200! It has happened and will happen, but again don't expect this to happen with that "box" of sawmill creek! Oh and a note wines from more temperate climates, Canada, France, northern spain, germany, Italy tend to age better than others, complex reasons as to why but trust me. the best bet for successful long term aging are the burgundy's and Bordeaux's along with Cab sav (single variety or blends) and Merlots (same as cab)

Just noticed there are no white wines on this thread -- if you're ever in the mood for a delicious, crisp/dry, incredibly fruity but refreshing white wine, I can't recommend the Stoneleigh Sauvignon Blanc enough:

It's delicious :)
It's a New Zealand wine, but the smaller LCBO locations will usually just put it in with the Australian wines.

Oh, did I not mention that!? AAhahaaaha! My bad.
Indeed, it was the tiny and elusive pachydermius pinkyvinicus.
They are easily spooked, but can usually be lured out of hiding with a glass of delicious sauvignon blanc.
