Hey All,

Just wondering if anyone has ever encountered this problem before. I left work yesterday and as I was approaching the road (Don Mills) from the parking lot I hit the brakes to slow down for traffic, but did not stop.

My brake peddle was hard as a rock, I had to throw the emergency brake and put the car into neutral. Luckily there were no cars coming in the third lane at the time of I would have been t-boned. I got the car back into the parking lot by going from reverse to neutral and gliding to a stop.

At first I thought I was out of brake fluid as I did not see any in the hlder or could feel anything. I got some fluid at a gas station nearby and added to the resevoir, turns out it was pretty much at max.

I started the car with the hood open and heard a hissing noise, upon further inspection I found the vaccuum hose that leads from the brake boost to beside the engine. Where the hose connects beside the engine has completely broken off and I can hear air sucking and the motor is jumping a little bit.

I have a co-worker hold the hose to where it is suppose to be connected and notice the engine sound better and that I now have my brakes back. We were not able to get a patch job in place that would hold. I called Gyro Mazda would informed me this is a Mazda specific part, but unfortunaltey there are none available in Ontario right now, but the good news is, this is something I can do myself and do not have to pay for labour. (yeah great news, I can do it myself but they wont have the part to me until next week)

So I am stuck at work, 60KM from home, have to have the wife pack up the babies and come and get me (rush hour traffic).

I call the used car dealer who I got the car from last May and he lets me know that he will dispatch his tow truck to pick it up and fix the problem under warranty (they are in Cambridge. I live north of Newmarket) as he is not able to comprehend how this line can possible brake in less than a year of owning the vehicle (2007 Mazda 3) and having only 57,000 on it. It is not making any sense to him. Otherwise he would have just paid for a local tow and the fix at a local shop.

So that was my exciting evening last night that almost got me killed. Thank god it did not brake off while I was doing 120KM down the 404.

Has anyone every had a similar problem before?

any change you seafoamed your engine through that exact brake booster vaccuum line earlier and didn't put it back on properly?.. other than that it's hard to see how that line could break...

i'm not sure exactly where its broken but if its kinda like what i'm thinking for a temporary fix u can just use any similiar sized tubing and tape it on with duct tape or clamp it on with those mini clamps

Nope, never used seafoam before. It appears that the brake boost line was a patch job from previous work, and whoever tried to fix it decided to use some sort of epoxy to fix the problem. I think that the winter slowly made the epoxy become brittle and finally snapped the boost line.

Yeah its great that the used dealer would go that extra mile and tow the vehicle, however I feel that it was more of an obligation as the car is still under his warranty and the severity of the problem. With the patch job (illegal I would say) he has an obligation to do everything possible to fix this problem, not only could I have been killed, my family could also have been killed should we have been on the highway and the brake snap. I know I cannot proove they did the patch job, but I feel the dealer needs to make this right for the "good will". Should he step up, I will deal with him again and also let others know of his business practices as well.

Car has been fixed, and I just need to find out what time the dealer is planning on bringing the car back to me today. Since he is in Cambridge, while my work is in Toronto and home is in Keswick. It is a huge burden should he make me go to cambridge to pick up my car. The agreement when I purchased the vehicle was, should he decide to have the car towed to him for warranty work that he would get the car back to me once completed and I plan to hold him to this agreement as it would be a huge envasion in my time.

Shoul dhere back soon.
