I posted here last year that my 2004 Mazda 3 gt was having shift shock when its cold ( first thing in the morning). It was still under warranty and the dealer did the tcm update and a fliud flush. My wife drives the car 99% of the time . Now I starting driving it fulltime and I noticed the shift shock back. It goes away after a couple of blocks. Anyway my question is there anything I could do myself fix this problem or just on driving and not worry about it. Thanks

First thing u should check the motor mounts to see if their good and if they are. then u could change the tranny mount to a better one

I changed the engine mount located near the right side of the car last fall. I could take a look at the transmission mount this week. How would I know if the mount is bad? I'll search the site for how to change it. Thanks

the wrong type of fluid could cause poor shift quality too

I had the tranny fluid flush at my local mazda dealership last april and I had the tcm reflash with new software.

if it goes away after a couple of blocks i think nothings wrong with it. The tranny has to just warm up. But if the car is warm and its doing it somethings wrong.

What's Shift Shock?
First thing in the morning , it hesitates from gear 1 to 2 for a couple of blocks then everything runs normal. I think that these trannys take alot of abuse because they heat up so much as I have been reading from other owners. I got a tranny flush at 29000 km and now I have 38000km and the fluid is already changing color from red to light brown. I think I will do a drain and fill (3 liters) this week and then again in the fall to keep this tranny from failing early. Thanks for all the info from these forums!

The hesitation being with the acceleration while in 1st or 2nd? Is this hesitation mild or very noticeable?

Mine does that too but if the car is warmed up, it doesn't have that shift shock problem. Only on cold mornings and I choose to drive off without giving it about 3-5 minutes of warmup time (I work early mornings when it's regularly cool-ish), I feel the shift shock from 1st to 2nd gear.
