i was wondering about that today and maybe a silly question, but has any ms3 owner in this forum ever gotten an aftermarket sunroof? just curious of where they did it and how much they paid for parts and labour...and if they had problems after..like leaks and stuff....

As far as I know, i don't believe you can. The reason Mazda does not install is because of mandated roll bars for cars with that high a horse power. If you look at the top of the speed compared to a Gt the speed is a bit different because it has roll bars installed. To add a sunroof means to lose the roll bars, which as far as i know is very illegal, and your insurance company, well I can't even imagine.
? Any more info on this? I heard the lack of a sunroof was to stiffen up the chassis, improving the handling. I'm pretty sure the MS3 does not have any sort of factory roll cage built in (Correct me if I'm wrong though, I love finding out new things about the car...)

o and its not a roll bar, but an extra one or two reinforced crossmembers in the roof.

haha this is funny i just got a sun roof installed on my car and i get it back tomorrow at 5 pm. Ill make sure to post up pictures. But i also asked about the mazdaspeeds if they can get sun roofs and they can. They need to get the sun roof that comes out of the car (sliding glass panel sticks out rather than inside the car)

Ya I might have been wrong about the roll bar but I knew there was something extra for added security.

Adding a moonroof after the fact is entirely doable (with good, high quality, reliable results). However, such high-end workmanship and a moonroof with fancy features (including a glass sliding panel that slips into the roof versus above the roof) will cost between $2000-$3000 to install at the minimum. (I was quoted this when I contemplated adding a moonroof to my previous '3. The moonroof I was quoted was actually better than the OEM one, with more and better features, including auto close and one or two other neat things.) That said, you can also have a moonroof installed after the fact for as little as $300, though it won't be nearly as nice, and nowhere near the OEM moonroof in reliability, features and cool factor.
Exactly. I wanted to install one on my MSP but was told that it would decrease body rigidity. That wasn't even the biggest thing for me though. Aftermarket sunroofs are notorious for leaking and not properly sealing. We'll see if iGoZoom's works fine but I would just accept the fact that you don't have a sunroof, and next car you buy, make sure it has a sunroof with it stock.

OEM sun roofs also have a chance of leaking or not sealing properly. I took my car to Total Auto Glass & Sunroof and was also able to look at the work they had done on previous cars before mine, they were also referred to me by another mazda dealership. After seeing their work I'm pretty confident that I will have no issues. Plus if any problem does occur it comes with a life time warranty.

I know, i was just referring that if anybody with a speed was interested in getting one the place I went to does them.

Back when the Matrix XRS first came out, they had Firestone Firehawk tires (some sticky summer rubber)...owners that auto-xed/drove the car hard enough to cause chassis flex in stock form were popping sunroofs!
Toyota's fix for it was to remove the summer tires as OEM and put all-seasons on it. :chuckle
