Thats the best part of driving in the states, people move over to let the faster car drive by! Nobody here understands that the left lane is for passing and Ontario should pass a law like that!

I have also heard that too, it's more general I think though just stating something like "Cars should not force vehicles behind them to slow in the left lane" something like that.

Obviously not enforced at all or followed by 99% of drivers in the left lane.

Agreed. There may be a lot of things wrong with Florida but when I was there on vacation the left lane was almost ALWAYS empty. People didn't wait for someone to come up from behind - they passed and went back into the right lane and that was it. The difference it made, especially on the 2-lane highways was crazy. It was so weird to experience 'proper highway etiquette'.

As for the comments about removing the 50 over law. I agree...or at least the punishment. The fines already increase significantly more with as the speed increases, by the time you get to 50 over the fines used to be crazy high for all but the overly-wealthy (I forget where they have it, but somewhere your traffic fines are based on your income, so some guy got a couple hundred thousand dollar ticket for speeding that would cost one of us a fair chunk of change but nowhere near as much). Also, insurance penalties will all but keep you from driving after a 50 over ticket anyways. It's easier to get off for 50 over now than it was then because of the unlawfulness of the punishment. And let's be honest...there are constantly LARGE groups of cars travelling 140-150+ on the 407 at almost any time of day. It even happens on the 401, especially once you're out of Toronto and surrounding areas.

Yup that's true. When I used to be a daily driver on 407, most cars were doing 140. But even at 140, they only use the left lane for passing. On the 401, its always the people that drive a little over the limit, like at 110-120, that use the left lane to pass then pull back to the middle lane. The worst is DVP...when I'm trying to get to class and some mofo is being a slowpoke in the left lane! When I was in Europe, it was surprising to see everyone keeping the left lane free for passing. I seriously hope they implement something like this and enforce it!
