In light of Toyota’s unintended acceleration nightmare, Mazda has announced they will soon start installing brake override systems in all new models. T
he override system will ensure against unintended acceleration by automatically giving priority to the brakes in an instance where both the brake and accelerator are pressed simultaneously. Toyota has plans to install a similar system in all of their vehicles, and Nissan already has such a system in place.
Mazda has not experienced any instances of unintended acceleration in its vehicles - this appears to be a purely precautionary measure.

Maybe because they are looking at buying into Toyota hybrid technology. :)

I think you'd be ok if the clutch was in. That's just my assumption though.

Why the hell not? The 3 is a great autocross car, and fine on the track, if a bit slow on the straights.
Oh, and lets not forget about the Miata and RX-8, both of which are very popular autocross/track cars. If Mazda does place this in all their cars then the question about heel and toeing seems quite valid IMO.

Some dumb people get floormats stuck on the gas pedal and dont know how to shift to neutral and now we all have to suffer....
I dont remember them fixing my carb when my 82 skylark throttle cable stuck at WOT, or giving me a new gas pedal when my floormat from CT jammed my 91 isuzu stylus pedal at WOT on the QEW...
I say dont change anything and let natural selection do its thing

i think this would be for automatic transmissions. VW has this already in vehicles with automatic transmissions and DSG.
for a manual transmission, the assumption would be that you already know how to drive and disengage the engine from the transmission if the throttle body remained open.
