It went smooth as icing on a cake.

Out with the old 8 cubic feet of useless plastic:

Ya, I know the pic is crappy, but I wasn't going to waste more digital space on crap.

... and in with the new:

Super easy install, except for the fact that I had to remove the inner wheel well liner and skirt to engage and slay the plastic octopus residing in the front left nose of my car. I entered the dark cave to the cheers of encouragement from my squire Sonny, who gasped in awe as I dismembered the beast piece by piece with my assortment of chromed weapons and ejected the appendages one by one from the black hole of despair. His jaw dropped in amazement at the number of arms this evil entity possessed. But let fear bother yee no more, as Sir Mazdilla emerged from the dark void having conquered the forces of evil once more! Let the trumpets sound and the angels rejoice! The brave warrior declined a parade in his honour through the town square, as he chose to ride his steed in a spirited gallop through the countryside. However, friends and family of the brave knight still celebrated the momentous occasion over a feast of malt, ground bovine grilled on an open flame, fresh breads, and fine cheeses.

(I could have let it live there, but I'm anal when it comes to an install.)

While I was in there I also replaced the horn with an OEM 2004 MZ6 dual horn assembly ($40 at Mazda). Cheaper than a Hella and just as freakin' loud - just ask my Westie boy, who's still really pissed at me, and his associate Chippy the Chipmunk, who bolted in a cloud of peanuts and seeds, and has yet to be located.

But I digress, back to the Simota CBII - 651

Plug and Play.
Looks awesome and really cleans up a lot of clutter in that corner of the engine bay.
It really sounds great, emitting a low throaty growl under spirited acceleration.
It didn't take long for the ECU to adjust, a couple of burps at initial start up.
No bogging whatsoever.
I can feel a difference in acceleration.
NO, NONE, NADA, NIL, ZILCH, NEIN, ARIEN, NONNE, NYET in the way of CEL's.

Zoom - grrrrrrrrrrrrr - Zoom!

Purrrrrrrrfect!

Another great buy at NextMod !!

Now that I have driven the car spiritedly several more times, the computer is learning more and the acceleration is outstanding.

It really doesn't take long to red-line at all like it did before, through all first 4 gears. The growl of the intake drowns out the sound of the motor, so I now have to watch the RPM gauge, whereas before it was just another idiot light in the dash. There is absolutely no hesitation at all. As a matter of fact, it feels like a different car altogether.

100 kph in third within about 6-7 seconds at the most. I haven't timed it yet, but I will next time out.

You will love this intake.

Ask Pete at NextMod for the price, the Canadian dollar changes value every day. It was near par this morning.

As for warranty, and from some of the horror stories I've heard here, I believe that a piece of bubble gum stuck to your tire voids the warranty. The trick is if something happens (which I doubt, since the intake shouldn't induce problems) , re-install the OEM air intake and then bring the car in. You can leave the bottom part of the factory intake in your left nose cone to make the reinstall easier. I chose to remove about 11lbs of plastic.

I believe the claims are approximately 8 hp. A Google search, or a search of their website (simotausa.com) should reveal all.

I just put mine in earlier today!!!

thanks to peter @next mod!!!

it was very very very easy to install, except for that mounting bracket. I thought that was a bit of a bitch to get on. Very very tight fit. I had to use some scotch tape to hold the rubber onto the bracket while putting it on (removed most of it afterwards).

Yes, I wrote up a step to step guide that would show you exactly on to do it on a 2010, kod30 used it and said it was spot on. *See my sig plate*

It was a very smooth install w/ the guide wing zero made. I just brought my netbook outside and followed it step by step. You dont need many tools at all. Think all i used was just a couple screwdrivers and a 10mm socket wrench (just for the battery terminal and to remove the one bolt on the stock airbox).

Tools needed:

- thin drywall scraper for plastic plugs (pry and pop)
- 8 mm socket for breather/adapter plate assembly
- 10 mm socket for breather clamp/bracket clamp/TB install
- 5/16 socket for SS hose clamps
- 17 mm socket/extension for bracket install on battery plate
- left hand
- right hand
- diagram
- brain

... and your good to go.

Very easy to install.

I went a step further and did some exploratory surgery and removed all of the factory air box/air chambers/air whatchmacallits from through the wheel well.

Its looks very clean as opposed to leaving all that useless background plastic in the car.

Hey Mazdilla,

I'm interested in this intake. How much louder is this compared to stock intake if you were to rate this from 1 being quiet and 10 being loud?

I really don't want a loud fart cannon.

Thx

I know I'm not Mazdilla, but there is no change in sound unless you access higher RPMs with heavier throttle. There is a sound clip in my Review thread, ***SEE MY SIG***

Thanks wingzero. I saw your posting earlier but I couldn't open it since I was at work.

It is not loud at all. It has a pleasant light growl when you put your foot into it during acceleration. Quiet as a Lexus on cruise.

Got mine in tonight before the UFC fights, took it for a spin. Damn could feel it a bit more already, or its all in my head. I followed your directions for the most part. Thanks for the tips.

On the sound..... over 3500 rpm when giving it.... damn sounds sexy now :)

Ill get some vid hopefully tomorrow.
