Hey everyone,
I figured this forum would be the best to post this in but if it should be somewhere else, mods please move it. Likewise, should it violate any sort of forum rules, please remove it and notify me.
Anyways, back on topic. I'm sure many if not all of you have heard of 'The Ride to Conquer Cancer'. This ride is in it's 3rd year and originally started off as a 200km ride from Toronto to Niagara Falls (over the course of 2 days) benefitting the Campbell Family Institute at the Princes Margaret. It is so popular that not only has it expanded to 3 other provinces (Quebec, Alberta and B.C.), but they have added a 200 Mile ride as well.
I am an avid cyclist (did competitive mountain biking all throughout high school, competing in some Ontario and Canada cup races as well) and have been doing a ton of road biking for the past 4 years or so. Unfortunately, over the past 2 years I have had conflicts with exams and have been unable to participate in the ride but this year I am doing the 200 Mile ride from Toronto to Niagara Falls over the June 12-13, 2010 weekend.
Riders need to raise a minimum of $2500 to participate in the ride and my personal goal is $3500. Up to this point I have raised $1600 and have until the end of May to fundraise the other $900 or I will have to pay out of pocket to be allowed to ride. Ideally I would like to raise the $2500 purely through fundraising - I will still be making a donation on my own behalf but I am a student and so $900 is not what I can afford - and that is where you guys come in.
I'm not coming here expecting to get $900 out of you guys. I'm posting this because I know many people have been or are affected in some way, shape or form by cancer and disregarding that, I know that the TM3-ers are a highly generous group of people (just look at the foodbank results!).
That being said, any donation no matter how big or small is greatly appreciated and all donations are 100% tax deductible! The money goes to use immediately and does not sit still until the end of the donation period. What may also be an appealing option is that you can opt to do installments - i.e. instead of say $100 at once, you can have it do $10/month for 10 months etc.
The link to my 'participant centre' can be found here - Salomon's Participant Centre (http://www.conquercancer.ca/site/TR/Events/Toronto2010?px=2184801&pg=personal&fr_id=1311) and from there you can make donations.
