I'm going to hong kong for a couple of weeks in April/May and will be staying with relatives. Just wondering what to bring them as a "thank you" for letting me stay there.

Everyone has been telling me maple syrup... but I was wondering if you guys had any ideas (specifically those who have relative in HK/China)

Thanks !

Souvenirs of Vancouver Olympic 2010?

It is a waste if your relative is not into maple syrup

Is there a price range. Some authentic items bought here are much much more expensive over there. Hand bags, sport jerseys.

My relatives always ask for abercrombie and fitch every time someone goes over. Not sure if that helps.

Yeah, it's pretty age dependant. Generally, whatever is expensive to get there, but cheap here, works. I know my gf's sister always buys craploads of cookies and peanut butter to bring back home b/c it's more than double the price over there.

I'm stocking up on Glysomed hand cream when I go to HK nearing the end of April for 2 weeks. My relatives go crazy over glysomed hand cream because it is so expensive in HK and we can get the giant ones here.

If you have a costco membership, if your relative chew gums, giant packs of gum here works well too.

My cousin asked me to get a book for him because in HK, the price of the book is nearly doubled, so that might be something else.

Icewine or wine in general is another good one.

Or, if all else, offer to pay for dinner or something once or twice when you're there.

IM SO JEALOUS!!! I grew up in Hong Kong. Fack. I miss it so much =[
Anyways, DESIGNER STUFFF !!! Like branded stuff, its expensive there =P Go to the COACH outlet in Niagara Falls.
Since HK is basically across China, most things are cheap already..

But yeah a few more things are:
- Vitamins
- Brands: Coach, DKNY, Calvin Klein and Victoria Secret

NOTE: Do NOT get them anything electronic! LOL

EDIT:
Btw! And if you want CHEAP designer stuff, sign up for this website:
http://www.beyondtherack.com/member/invite/B127B621

Only way you get in is if you get invited by a member (ME!! lol) but yeah, its crazy inside the website, they have AWESOME sales, PLUS its for men and women too, they also have various items for sale, like toys, carpets, paintings)

LOL @ Victoria's Secret.

Canadian Ginseng is desirable.

Turtles chocolate is popular. Roots clothing? They have a Roots store in HK but I heard its double/triple the cost here.

If you want to be real Canadian, get the entire box set DVDs of Corner Gas.

Whats wrong with Victoria's Secret? -_-

Bras in HK are cheap quality, and I guess all of the other undergarments.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys!

They are 45-55 yrs old. Ginseng seems like a weird thing to bring over , but I'll give that a shot. Going to throw in a bottle of ice wine too.

More suggestions are welcome !

Oh ya, also I remember my parents bringing back Glucosamine (sp?) for older people that suffer from joint/arthritis problems.

Ginseng is definitely something to bring over, they love Ginseng. US or Canadian Ginseng is actually preferred in HK.

Most nutritional supplements are also cheaper here than in HK.

Just kinda awkward to ask your aunt "What size?" and answers "38DD".

but that's just me!

If HKers have breasts that size, they're probably not completely natural...

Just sayin...

^^^ Especially at that age. Maybe a banana hammock for the males amongst your relatives... :chuckle

I second the notion about glucosamine - all my asian relatives hound me to take them into Costco, where they proceed to buy up loads of glucosamine and calcium suppliments.
