Battery life, and poor software, fail before launch. I am not an Apple fan at all, however HP's instance on using Windows7 skinned, is going to cause problems.

I dunno, a fully functioning browser and some other vista features make it a bit more useful overall (in theory)

In theory...but the battery life..if stated to be 5 hours, will likely be 2 hours functional...that is a big drawback to me.

The more competition the better. HP slate doesn't look as appealing as the iPad thou.

Hard to say what it will be, not sure I believe the ipad's 10 hours either but no doubt it will lead in that category. at the end of the day a laptop makes more sense in my mind

There will probably be better tablets then the IPad not sure if the Slate will be but because of the "it" factor, IPad will still dominate and own the tablet market.
Refer to mp3 players as a good example.

The ipod is a crushingly competitive product in the MP3 space aside from the brand tied to it.... not sure the ipad has the same distinct competitive advantage over other tablets but i agree with your point
It looks like a great product at first, but battery life sucks, it's under powered for the OS (1 GB of RAM???), I like the idea of it running Windows7, but it's going to be an awful touch experience. This thing should have 2 GB of RAM MINIMUM. The 1.6 Ghz cpu isn't too bad if you are just using it for light stuff.... I was hoping to replace my Vaio P with this bad boy.... But after seeing the specs I'm not sure.

The problem with adding more RAM and more CPU is it drives the price up. They are doing their best to keep the price inline with the ipad.

Yup... and battery takes a dive. That's the problem with making a tablet that runs full Windows 7. They're trying to create a new product, license Windows, and keep the hw specs decent enough to run it... It's a disaster from the start. Just the windows license cost could have got them some more ram. ;)
Seriously though, they should have offered multiple flavors. A stripped down version priced to match the iPad and a more expensive version for more serious power users that don't mind paying a premium for a better product...

HP SLATE FTL . All the videos I have seen on engadget/youtube show a very laggy OS.
Having Flash is good , but can this thing run a Flash game smoothly without bugging up? doubt it.

Final product is not released yet. Everything posted so far is pre-release and speculation. I'm willing to wait for a final release before casting final judgement.
