rant "Is it just me??!!"

Ok I'm sorry for taking up server space for this but I just had to get this off of my chest. This rant is also a question. The question is for those of you who have a distinct cultural or racial heritage that is present in the GTA. The reason I am asking this is I want to know if I"m alone in feeling ashamed about my cultural background because of the stupid, loud mouth, ignorant, drunk, people that seem to be the only ones that make an impression (bad one) in the community? I am of portuguese heritage, and there are a fair number of portuguese in the GTA area I think it is something like 60 thousand or something. For the life of me for every educated polite person of portuguese heritage I see or have to interact with there are 50 of them that make me ashamed to be associated with that background! Is it just with the pork chops or do the stupid people of every culture/race that are represented here feel it is their job to alienate and make it harder for the rest of their people??

I don't know for other cultures I can't speak for, but for a fact if you look at the demographics of cultural backgrounds of people who do not finish highschool portuguese are the highest by far, entering into post secondary education the lowest, teenage pregnancy probably near the highest. Maybe it's just because of the large population around the area that the numbers are skewed but Fark my people are :AH's

Don't think that way. No one is perfect and we all make mistakes in life or are sometimes dealt a crappy hand in life, but it shouldn't be a reflection of an entire community. We all do the best we can considering the circumstances.

sadly though, it is always the worst of the bunch that get noticed, and then of course that's why we have stereotypes /shrug

eh w/e there is always some sort of douchebag in any culture that makes a bad impression to add to ther cultures stereotype, take the rich italian ginos in woodbridge, a good majority of them are snobby rich kids who laugh at people who are learning to drive (experienced this, saw a bunch of kids in their dads benz speed on the wrong side of the road. past a driving school car, laughing at the student driver who was probably 16, learning just like they did at some point), the fact that they have something better then other people makes them feel special but eventually they realize wat idiots they are. but dont get me wrong, growing up in woodbridge, i met a lot of normal italian kids who are brought up properly with the mentality that no one is better then anyone else, all equal.

dont mind those idiots who make a bad impression on you race/culture, im sure there are just as many people like you who think the same thing, but you should be proud of your background, nowadays people look at who you are as a person and not your background. everytime i see a brown person, i dont think they have a dollar store or 2 somewhere, i see them as a person i dont know anything about, could be a good person or a complete idiot, but toronto and the GTA dont really jump to conclusions with stereotypes backing it up. if you hang out with those kinds of people, then people will think something else about you, but if you dont hang around them, people are gonna think "this guys cool, yeay for porkchops!" :chuckle i understand where your coming from, but people judge you by your actions nowadays, not stereotypes!

Be proud of your background cuz your family has the exact same background, and im sure you dont think of them the way you think of those idiots!

Yeah I guess so, the problem is I don't purposefully hang around them they just happen to hang around where I work (part time), and where I live.
