what year is your car? If it's within 6 years of original sale, Mazda should cover this under warranty.

in that case it should be covered. Go to your dealer, show them the rust. They will take pictures, and send to Mazda for approval.

Sounds great! I purchased it from a used dealership....should I go to them or go to a mazda dealer?

I see. I was not aware of this warranty that Mazda had in place. Is it something that a customer need to purchase or is it something that comes standard?

it is not an additional purchase. Rather, Mazda has an unofficial extension in place for certain areas(quarter panels, wheel wells, brake light) that have been having rust issues. I would recommend you do some reading on the rust threads across the forum, then go to your local dealer.

Oh man ... I have a rust wart starting to form on my hood
I'll take it in and ask...no harm in aksing.

Will they rust-proof for prevention? Or is it strictly rust repair?

NVM - I'll start reading the 28-page thread........

They are not likely to cover your hood. They will claim that is a result of a stone chip.

While you go to the dealer mention the hood aswell, it doesn't hurt to ask, as for the quarter, make sure they replace that panel - Mazda now makes a partial wheel arch replacement panel for this affected area and in your case it should be replaced, if they insist on a "rust repair" it will just come back in a few months.

That is correct. They are pretty strict on the hood policy, even if the rust clearly is the result of a stone chip. My rust was starting from the underside of the hood, and they still won't cover it.

So I dropped by a MAzda dealer today. they took some pictures and said they will see if Mazda is going to approve it.

I called another dealership and explained how the rust is starting on the quarter panel, the guys says the warranty is only for "perforation". Apparently the rust has to create a hole for them to cover it under warranty. AND it is only covered if its either on one of the doors, or the trunk!!!

THIS IS BS I could not beelive it when I heard this!!

The person you spoke with is incorrect. That was/is the previous policy for items outside the special policy(quarter panels, door pillars, brake light area).

that is BS my 05 had exactly the same thing in the exact same spot
Mazda ontario on Dixie (where i bought the car) told me no its not covered it has to rust from the inside out. I went to Kieswetter in waterloo (gf lives out that way) and they took the car in no problem no questions asked. They told me Mazda ontario probably wouldnt do it because they dont have a paint shop and would have to pay themselves for such a job.
so go complain to the manager or try a different dealer its TOTALLY covered!! btu i would do it quick because i was told 5yr rust warranty from the day the car was bought. "maybe S.F.W. is right and its 6 yrs"

lprince
04-20-2010, 07:42 PM
I can confirm its 5 years....both dealers I spoke with today told me its 5 years.

I hope Mazda approves this because telling me it will only be covered for doors and a trunk is BS and I'm getting very impatient like many other Mazda 3 customers with rust problems

The guy that told me that only the doors and the trunk are covered is from Avante Mazda.

Im keeping my fingers crossed that mazda approves this....If not im not even sure if there is a point in going to TM3, because mazda will know I already sent in an inquiry...

if you have already started a request with one dealer, no need to go to another. If you have rust on the wheel well, push back for that to be covered, as it should be covered. Spend a few minutes, and do some reading on similar situations posted recently. You will find many valuable pieces of information.

My bad about the REALLY LATE reply guys, but yes they fixed it for me. They just took a bunch of pics of the rusted parts and got approval.

BUT, beware that they try to prolong this as much as they can! If you don't keep bugging them about it they will not respond quickly as you would like!

I have been trying to determine, through this site, if my Hatch is covered but I can't find a definitive answer.

My 2006 went into service on Sept 19, 2006. Should Mazda, or better put, will Mazda cover the repair of the rust I have that is starting in the rear wheel wells?

The one I got mine done is in Markham. Try that one if it isn't too far from you....it's close to HWY 7 and McCowan..

But trust me on this, you need to be persistent with them, call them back after they take pics of your rust spots to get them approved. Give them 2 business days and keep calling them back or they will much rather try and phase you out

I'm sure this is how it is with any dealership, I could be wrong though..

I have been dealing with DWM for over 10 years with 4 different Mazda's. I would hope they would take me seriously when I call, but we will see.

I just heard back today - Mazda Canada is going to cover my repair.
It goes in next week and will have the rear quarters dealt with.
Thank for the advice folks, and Mazda Canada.

Well, I got a call this afternoon to tell m e that my car is done.
I went and picked it up at Dave Wood Mazda and it looks terrific. They repaired the rust spots and buffed both sides of the car (maybe even the hood but I can't tell right now).

Totally satisfied and very happy to have been treated as well as I have been.
