Hey guys,
I've used the search and done a little research on a few other sites...

I installed my intake on sunday and then on monday afternoon, the CEL came on.
i followed all the steps.. and while swapping the MAF from stock to SRI, i didn't touch it or play around with it. the fit on the SRI is snug and all connectors/clamps are as tight as they go...
Monday evening i disconnected the battery for 5 minutes, turned the car back on, let it idle for another 5 minutes and the CEL was off - i thought all was well.

about 24 hours later, the CEL is back on.

do i bother to reset the batter again?
I have read that it might take some time for the ECU to 'learn' then new setup and that the light will go off itself... is this true?
otherwise, can the ECU be reset to accept the new setup?

i have read too that certain intakes are prone to throw CEL's. Which intake are you using? I'm using an SRI myself, never got a CEL (knock on wood)

Are the MAF wires tight? They need a bit of slack or you will get a CEL.

+1 My bet is the MAF sensor as well.

yeah you have to disconnect the cable bundle from where it attaches to the battery box. That and double check what the code is it might just be a coincidence that it happened when you installed the SRI.

If that happen again, try this cause it happen to me last monday morning after i down gear,(trip) after i'd enter on the hwy.

ok so do this, start your car, open youre gas cap, then put it back in and closed it properly, "IF" the "CEL" didn't disappear, do this turn your "ignition ON" (but not start) FOUR times or five (but try 4 first - to reset), i know it's kinda non-sense but it worked on my car (06 gs sedan), and the CEL never came back ON again.

How??? Beat me, my co-worker told me that and i tried it and it worked.
Their told me sometimes is the GAS CAP not properly closed or need to change it. BTW i got F5 CAI. Hope that will help GL.

Thanks for all the advice guys... if you're doing an intake install, just cross your fingers you don't get the CEL
I installed the Ractive SRI that i bought from Peter...

I drove it to work this morning and the CEL was on...
The weirdest thing happened this afternoon... went into the car for a tims run and BAM, CEL is off.
so maybe it did 'learn' the new set-up....

I would bet it was the MAF or maybe me tightening everything the other day worked in some odd way 2 days later....
but whatever it was, i know the MAF and ECU are pretty sensitive components...

i hope i don't see that light again...

Check if during the install you ended up loosening one of the cables to the MAF sensor. A lot of time there is not a lot of slack in the MAF wire, and the stretching causes a poor connection.

I installed the exact same SRI last week, not a problem yet, just be really careful with the maf sensor, make sure you don't mess around with it during install.

Will Mazda replace the MAF if you keep getting CEL's after installing an intake? Or would that void the warranty on that part because it wasn't installed by Mazda?

A friend of mine back home (Halifax) has a 07 M6 and he just swapped out the standard box filter for a new K&N box filter and 10mins after driving it the CEL came on. Eventually the CEL went off, but 2 days later it came on again and stayed on. He ended up going to Mazda and they ended up replacing the MAF for him. But I wonder if they would have replaced if it he had installed a CAI himself and got an CEL

I would guess you need to buy the new MAF. It's around $80 IIRC.

Disconnect your battery overnight.

Then reconnect and drive the next day.

It's all good after that.

So the CEL came back on and I took the car to my mechanic to read the code... it came up as P2187 - "Engine running too lean at idle. bank 1"
After doing some research, many sources lead me to believe that it's some sort of air leak AFTER the MAF.
I'm using the ractive superflow filter that had a loose rubber piece that fits into the bottom of the filter (which i thought was odd when installing)
should i have removed that and then clamped the filter without it? there isn't anything else AFTER the MAF

Thats before the maf, try making sure that all your O rings on the whole intake are nice and tight, for about a week after i put mine on i checked it just about every day, and had to tighten them a couple times, now i'm good. Also make sure you have a nice tight seal where it attatches to the engine.

The problem is the main harness connecting to the MAF sensor. It's very sensitive, and if you pull it too much it will stretch the important wires causing a CEL.

More than likely a dealer will charge you to fix the problem.

If this is the case, I rather DIY. Dealer charged me $120 bucks just to soldner 1 wire & it broke after 1month, so i just did it myself.
