I bought a Mazda3 hatch back about a year and half ago from Prima Mazda and the sales man said that i had a 3 years left on my power-train warranty. Well my engine started making a noise and I took it to the St. Catharines Mazda service centre to get it repaired. I had to show them the proof of all the oil changes. Which i did provide but i couldn't show them my previous owners oil changes nor will they give me the customer information to contact them (which i agree with as well). About a month after i bought my car i heard a squealing noise and i brought it to St. Catharines Mazda to have it checked. They give me a long list of other issues and saying its like back tire that is causing the noise. A year and half later i am at this stage. Needing a new engine. I believe that the issue i first complained about was the engine and Mazda neglected it. Also, i have proof that i maintained the car by getting oil changes done every 5000 kms. I have contacted Mazda Canada and they were no help. I feel that I am being taking advantage of. If the sales guy told me there was a balance of a power-train warranty and i have maintained it, the warranty should still be valid. I would think that Prima Mazda would have done their homework and checked to see if it was before stating that as a selling feature of the car.

Should i just give in and get my engine replaced?

or

Should I continue to fight this issue?

Any guidance, help, or comments will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Luca Scalzo

I think you need to go to another dealer... any of the reputable ones people recommend here will be a start

go back to prima
agreed. they sold the car with warranty. You have maintenance record from the time you bought the car until now. Prima should either get Mazda Canada to cover the engine, or they should.

I had the same issue with my 05 mazda hatch, there was a rattling going on in the engine and it had to be replaced. Go back to the dealer and don't leave until they do it for you, they sold you a vehicle with a warranty so your problem should be covered.

i had a very similar situation where my engine crapped out and started burning oil, went to jiffy lube he printed out the service chart with oil changes i got done. Except for me on the service chart it didnt say oil change it had a jiffy lube code and only stated that at 50,000 kms i spent 87 bucks and at 57,000kms i spent 92 bucks and so on. The guy at the service desk told me i couldnt prove they were oil changes without the reciepts, luckily i foujd them but i was being told to get a lawyer if they werent going to fix it.

Only an assumption, but if there is a chance the original owner serviced the vehicle at prima, wouldn't they have some records based on the VIN that they can look up? If not, request head office to look into the VIN and see what they say. Because I'm something may come up. Unless the previous owner DIYd it all or went to another shop.

Also if you complained or brought up the engine concerns to the dealership, they should have documented the concern at the very least. If you have this recorded on your records and they neglected to address and/or resolve prior to the expiration of warrenty, I think you might have a chance at getting the engine repaired or replaced under warrenty.

Bring it right back to Prima and make noise. Call every media outlet who will hear your voice and make Mazda bend. Thats absolutely ridiculous...

X2. Mazda doesn't need more bad press right now.

i got my engine replaced cuz my engine kept burning oil, i complained about it just before my warrenty was up and then down the line they replaced my engine, by this point my warrenty was over too.

Glad to see im no the only one..... heres the situation...... Over the last few days my 05 sedan has been making some serious noises... so I took the car into Jimmy at Street Performance, and discovered my passenger side engine mount was busted.... while he still suspected the bottom end of the motor was gone.... we replaced it just in case... needless to say.... it was the engine.....

Now here's my beef since I'm not the only one dealing with mazda right now.... I have been able to come up with all of my oil change records since i've owned the car (april/07) on my bll of sale it states that the warranty effective date is that of aug 05 and the car now has 96 000 km on it which means it just squeaks in under the warranty in both areas........ here is the issue im having.... a) no one mentioned the whole previous owner bs.... and i'd like to stress bs.... because if u bought the car at a mazda dealer.... shouldnt the car be up to their standards before selling it??? therefore making sure the warranty is in tact..... and b) avante (rolls eyes) is as usual giving me a rough time.... they are claiming the oil changes must have been done by mazda or they will not cover the replacement of the motor under warranty......

Now to me.. if i have records from a shop... that has done the service what are you whining about??? Not that I am surprised that they are pulling my leg and ****ing me around..... after all it is Avante!!!! I mean god forbid... they were to help a customer instead of hinder one....

anyones help or input would be most appreciated... as I only discovered the powertrain warranty last night.... as I was too busy making phone calls to all the motor shops looking for a replacement.... which by the way... is super difficult if you are driving a hatch or a gt with the 2.3L.......... if you got the 2.0L u have nothing to be worried about lol

Regarding the oil changes needing to be done at Mazda. I would ask them for supporting documentation. As all the documentation simply states you must complete the oil changes, and keep your invoices.

Well according to their website and everything else i've read on the warranty... it doesnt state anything about "must be completed by dealer" just states keep records.... I agree with you Ami... Im not giving in just yet... really dont want to spend the money on a new motor.... as much as I love my car.... this might be my last dealing with mazda....

I'd go to DWM instead
but ask them this... if the "black hole" of no oil change records or lack of maintenance BEFORE you bought the car caused the engine to fail, why didn't it fail then instead of now? why did it take so long for it to fail?
bet you they can't say a damn thing about that!

well heres the followup.... Im missing receipts from a few oil changes from the oil and filters... while Im still hunting for them.... Mazda Canada told me their hands are tied.... and basically accused me of not maintaining my vehicle cuz I dont have the proof... I haven't given up im tearing my place and my parents place apart for these receipts cuz Im pretty sure I have them somewhere.... But when I asked mazda.. that if I hadn't been maintaining my car and doing oil changes how would it take 2 years for me to pop a motor.... it would have gone alot faster then 2yrs... but they didnt seem to care. Its sad that after everything Mazda has gone through recently you would figure that they really would be trying to do the right thing and keep there customers happy instead of just irritating them more. It's bad enough I already lost the deposit on my vacation because I've had to deal with this. Its sad because I really do love the car and take better care of it then I did my girlfriend, and now i get accused of not maintaining it oh well... with some luck i'll find the receipts and there will be no issue.. I hope just upsets me cuz this really has soured me on mazda and their service!@

I know this doesn't help now, but this is why you should keep all your receipts IN the car, that way you wouldn't have to go find it!

if you know where you got your oil changes done, why not go back to the shop, and see if they can pull your records.

Already did that Ami.... but there were a few oil changes I did on my own... just can't find the receipt from when I bought the oil and the filter.... that what Im looking for... have to go back to street performance as well cuz Jimmy printed me an invoice but it had the wrong mileage on it.. so mazda wouldnt accept it.
