Hey guys I currently own a VW GLI, I posted it up for sale today and am looking into a Speed 3, I found one in Toronto(I'm from Kitchener) that I really like but it seems to have some mods done to it, some I like, some not so much. As I am completely new to the Mazda world I am wondering if anyone can give me some recommendations on my purchase?
-Is it reasonably priced?
-What things should I look out for?
-Does anyone know who used to own this car before? It seems as if a Mazda enthusiast owned it.
Any other recommendations you guys can give me about purchasing a Speed 3 are welcome!
Thanks in advance.

I remember there is a thread about it here a month or 2 ago and you don't want to know how much the dealer got this car for from the seller. =)

unless you are going to be able to break the price down to around $8K (what the dealer paid for it) i wouldn't go for it. There's no warranty on the car, the engine/turbo have never been blown/replaced (yes, in case with MS3s it could be a bad thing) and it has a high mileage. it has previously been heavily modded and there has been some physical damage to the car.

Yes, there was a discussion of how can the seller willing to accept 8k for a 07 MS3 as trade in and a lot of aftermarkets are left on the car too.

If you don't mind buying in distance, there is a 2007 CWP selling in MTL for 17800$OBO with extended warranty til 2013. Car looks clean with reasonable mileage.

New was 31k+ tx is almost 36k with extended warranty and tax, now is willing for around 17k after 3 years....Mazda never hold it's value for long.

Ya it is dissappointing and I don't understand why. Outside of a few engine/turbo/shock issues that have affected a few members the MS3 is far better built than a Caliber SRT4 or Colbalt SS IMO. The MS3 costs more upfront and goes for less used than those two it seems which is puzzling

I wonder if it's the price-point of the MS3 and the fact that it is a relatively uncommon car. Arguments sake, let's say a used MS3 holds value and goes for $26,000 or something. I don't know about anyone else, but 26 or 33 isn't a huge difference, soooo, most people that could afford 26 would probably go for the new car instead of used - the low demand for a used MS3 drives the price down more than even a regular 3 (I would imagine).
Also the worry about engine abuse, mods, etc with this car hasn't helped unfortunately. I didn't buy it for it's resale and don't plan to sell anytime soon. It is still disappointing that such an amazing car will sell for so cheap (good for those who can't afford a new one I guess!). Unless Mazda makes an AWD version, my bet is that the used prices will flatten out and stabilize over the next 3-5 years.

Ya their new pricing uplift over the USD probally doesn't help. 21-24k USD for a new MS3 vs. 33k Canadian with the dollar at par can't be helping.... if it were priced around 25k new like the srt4 it'd likely sale for the same as it is now and not look as horrid on the depreciation scale. RX-8 suffers the same fate... under 15k for 2005 with low miles, thats nuts considering it was over 40k

350Zs are nearing the fate of the RX-8 as well, I've seen some get into the 18s with no accidents on the car. Aren't those also priced higher than the RX8

That's why I will never buy and pay full price on a new Mazda. People buy it because it offer very good incentive, like 0% 60 month financing or cash price rebate, I've seen $29998 for a new RX-8 GT few years ago, MRSP is 41k.
For those who is buying it used, is a very good deal for that you paid for. 17K for a 3 yrs old. 263hp car with only liek 70k KM....

Agreed, I will never buy another new vehicle again. The depreciation just kills you. I'm loving my second hand speed3!!!!

I get mine sub-leased, so it is not as bad.
The buyback in 1.5yr is about $15kish....at the time, the car probably only worth 12k, not chance I'm buying it.

I completely agree. Mathieu adores this car and has taken extremely good care of it. Regular TLC and clean ALL the time. Everything is in perfect condition on this car and its going to go to a very lucky person. He is only selling for financial reasons, not because he doesn't love the car.
