So I wake up at 2PM and decide I want to eat something along Steeles as I have work at 4PM and left the house at around 2:30PM only to find out that there were only 1 lane during the rush hour from Leslie all the way to Yonge and then Bathurst all the way till Keele (I work at Keele and Steeles). I usually take Finch but there were not many good eats I pass by but just incase you have not already noticed:

DO NOT DRIVE ON STEELES FROM KENNEDY RD - KEELE ST.

It smells like they will not finish this construction until the end of this summer :bang

Yea, its a PITA. I live at Steeles/Birchmont, so I have to use that route to get on the DVP, argh.

you forgot to mention the randomly positioned raised sewers that just wait for you to drive over to crack your oil pan...

Impressive

Steeles blows...Construction blows too.

I remember last summer I was riding down Winston Churchill from Burhamthrope to Dundas, I'm not sure if it was my suspension in my old Jetta being shot, or the road but literally every metre I was SMASHING my front end, causing my car to jerk and MP3 player to skip almost the whole way...The worst part about it was that I was going like 40km/h max.

It's alot better now, when they were just 'carved' out, they had sharp corners and you'd feel it, but since the traffics always busy, it's been run over enough so that its fairly harmless. But yeah, I've seen lowered cars pretty much snake around everything lol

Yeah this sucks bad! I would suggest staying off Steeles completely!! The construction is pretty bad out near Yonge and Steeles too. Basically from the 400 to Vic Park is the "construction zone". BRUTAL!!!

Yup, the construction definitely killed our ride to and from work. We were just finishing a site (Don Mills & Steeles) when the construction started it was a complete mess and I'm sure it continues to be that (completely avoiding it). Steeles is bad enough to even start doing construction now that area...as another said just brutal!

Markham and Sheppard is getting bad...again!
It was under construction in the winter, but they did such a shitty job fixing it, they dropped the pylons down last night and going to start redoing it again!

It's BS! Just because the city is paying the wages on these repairs, they take all the time in the world to keep their paycheques steady for the summer.

No wonder Toronto is eleventy-billion-catrillion dollars in debt.

I can relate Bro. Live in Steeles & work in the Downtown area :(

Downtown is getting worst every day. I try avoiding construction routes but it's pretty much impossible during this time (especially Richmond, Church & Queen St.).

I take the 53 Steeles bus from Kennedy to Finch station everyday. Some days traffic is ok, some days its really bad. Good thing the bus drivers are maniacs and just go in and out of traffic.

Yes! I play football at Varsity Stadium on Sunday evening, and it takes me 5 minutes to get from the DVP to Bloor and Yonge, then 20 minutes on Bloor to get from Yonge to St. George!

Bloor between Yonge and Avenue Rd...

They just do some more concrete cuting in that area, traffic congest and too much noise

Omg I hate that area so much... that area is so narrow now that when there's people riding on bikes, i'll be so worried that I'll hit them if I try and go past them

Think about it. The bad traffic now will eventually end up with better roads later. I usually don't take steeles so it doesn't really affect me . =)

I just started a new job at Eglinton and Don Mills, if I live in Markham whats the best way to get there? It took my 1 hour today going from 407 to DVP then exiting at Wynford Drive.

Is there a faster way?

Haha...this is a couple of weeks overdue. At least from Dufferin --> Jane they're mostly done but East of there is still a freaking mess. The day they were doing the intersection itself at Duffering & Steeles it was BRUTAL. My family's business is right in the industrial area behind Home Depot/Superstore/etc. and so I get stuck in it constantly when I'm in town. -_-

in places like Hong Kong, they work around the clock on road repairs. efficiency!

road construction here is laughable. just the other day i was looking at the 401 construction sign with "completion date of 2013". really... does it take that long!!?

Steeles sucks balls since like day 1. Is it because markham nor scarborough wanna fix it since its the border? All I know is that, that street is so damn popular but in a bad spot, its so ****ed up.

Fixing costs us tax money = OUR money and we are already in debt and it took XX number of years for them to fix things now?

Depends on where you live in Markham and what time you leave home.

The major roads south-bound will be packed around 9am. If you can get onto Brimley, Midland, Birchmount or Pharmacy, they should be the better choices. All the way down to Lawrence or Eglinton. Or try 404 down to Finch, over to Don Mills south to your work.
