Whats a good place to travel? I have already gone to New York, New Jersey, Florida. Any west state coast is out of my budget. I was considering about Chicago but am abit holding back as I heard the crime rate is rather high if you go downtown. I'm mostly going for shopping and eating and some attractions. I would do Buffalo but I don't think there is much to do other than shopping.

I highly recommend a trip to Boston. Great city, friendly people, many things to see and do.

I've gotta agree. Out of all the places I've been in the States Boston is so far my favourite. Tons to do (check out the Golden Mile), tons of history and culture. Check out all the different museums...the BSO (Boston Symphony Orchestra) is amazing and the Boston Pops (in the summer) is fantastic as well. Berklee school of music and all those other higher level institutions (Harvard, MIT, etc.). Boston is also within a couple hours of fantastic outdoor adventures. Great waterfront as well.

If you enjoy sports definitely check out Fenway and perhaps try and find a ticket to a Bruins game if you go relatively soon.

I might be a little biased since I'm originally from there, but I really recommend checking out Chicago. It's a great city. Yeah it has it's problems crime wise, but it really isn't that bad if you stay out of the rough areas.

Chicago is awesome! I spent a few days there a couple of years ago and had a great time. Downtown is like downtown here or in New York, lots of people and lots of out-of-towners. Sure there are some questionable places there, but not so much downtown, but the same holds true with any large city. Go there in the summer or late spring. Friendly people too!

Boston I heard makes good baked beans...Fenway park yes I wanted to visit that place too (as long as they are not playing the blue jays). Shopping in Boston is better as they have no tax. Do they have any outlet malls?

Which areas should I be aware of? I'm planning to stay in a hotel in schaumburg

Avoid the south side of downtown Chicago and you're fine. Downtown Chicago is quite nice. Unlike Toronto, they have a nice waterfront (Navy Pier).

^^ Vegas or even Cali.

Flying out of Buffalo for $200 in a week. Staying in Hollywood, car rental (Jeep Wrangler) everything plus flight the whole trip is costing under $500 per person.

Agreed...Chicago is a fabulous city as well and lots to see and do there as well. If you like music check out Andy's Jazz Club and the CSO is great too although it's season will likely be done by the time you get there. The Navy Pier is great and the ferris wheel is fun =P TONS of shopping to do there. =D

I'm bias here because I basically grew up in Chicago. (Montrose Park, baby!)
I'm goin back to Chicago this June (end of month) specifically for Taste of Chicago.

BEST City within a half day drive, IMHO.
if you drive out to Milwaukee (45 min), theres a HUGE shopping mall (take you 2 days to hit the stores properly and thoroughly)
There's also the Navy Pier and 6 Flags Great America for the kids

the crime is over-rated. Downtown is the same as any major city.
South side, North side - doesnt matter - the city is about a 40 minute drive end-to-end. (Hence "the Loop)
Depending on how many people are going, you can rent a condo in Lincoln park for about $1G/week.
Works out good if there's a whole family going, simply because you get a kitchen to cook half your meals, instead of paying for take-out 3 times a day

Does anyone know if Arturos Restarant is still there?
