Rear splash guards for mazda 3 GT sedan

Hey guys,
I am new to this forum and recently bought a 2010 mazda 3 GT sedan in black mica.
As i was cleaning my car today, I noticed that the splash shield located directly behind the rear wheels is slightly different for the right rear wheel as opposed to the left rear wheel. Is this normal, or are they both supposed to be symmetrical?
It is almost like the left rear splash shield (on drivers side) is not as comprehensive as the right one?
Im starting to wonder if I'm missing a part on my car or there has been repairs done to it without my knowledge.
If anyone could please help me on this, I would much appreciate it.

first image is the right rear wheel and second image is the left rear wheel

I freaked out about the same thing. If i'm looking at the pictures correctly, it's apparently because the fuel tank is on one of the sides (forgot which side).

noticed that one mine the other day for the first time when installing the mudflaps. and mines an 04. thats how often i look under there.
