hey guys
I have been out of school since the end of April and I am still unemployed. I have applied to over 20 places and have only had a reply from one company, but I could not make the interview (my car broke down in Peterborough, interview was in Burlington).
Needless to say I am slowly becoming even more broke than I was during the school year. I am 21, quite strong and am always willing to do any job that requires hard work, aka landscaping. If anyone knows or currently works/runs a landscaping company, preferably in Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga ect. and needs a general labourer let me know. I have a year of landscaping experience and I can send a resume upon request.
Sorry for making a post like this so early into my TM3 days. I hate asking/begging, but it's coming down to it!
Thanks a lot,
Regards,
Daniel
Have you graduated from post secondary yet? If so then for what?

I have, and for Police Foundations. Peel is hiring but I do not feel I am 100% ready for a job in policing; plus I need more volunteer experience forsure for the recruiters to even look at me.
That and I need money so I can get the CPR and first aid courses done, a long with getting my gun license ect,.

If you have any sort of Post Secondary education, you should give this a shot.

Just keep looking and in the meantime work on completely the extra elements neeeded to apply to the force. Don't waste the education.

Peel isn't even doing testing until October, so you got some time before you can even start the process with them.
You should look into getting your COR done so you can apply to some other services.

Thanks for the help. I can't afford to do the COR testing or any of that for that matter. Hence looking for a summer job 40+hours a week at atleast $11.00/h so I can afford to get my certificates, ect..
I will definitely keep looking, and thanks again guys/girls for all of your help. I am a member on a few forums, but you all seem to be the nicest and most helpful. Wonder if its because we're all Canucks :P

If you're just looking for a job try contacting some skilled labour unions (carpenters, stone masons, etc) and tell them you are looking for labourer jobs. Sometimes they need people to labour on-site. I used to labour for a contractor between school and finding full time work. You'll make a decent wage.

Where'd you take PF? Some places have a third year added on now, if you can get in. That might make getting hired a bit easier for you.

Seeing as I graduated from the same program, most places only have it until second year. Where do you know that has added a third year?
Your best bet is to either contact Maplehurst like I mentioned and see if they're hiring, or go work security for a bit until you've got all your certificates and qualifications. You can also join a cadet program...I believe OPP, Peel and Halton are all running cadets so if you join on there that may also increases your chances of finding employment.

Conestoga has a 3rd year that gets you a separate degree. Mohawk also has a third year.
As for volunteer work: Victim services is a great place to get experience. Nothing makes you crap your pants more than the first time you walk onto a crime scene and people look to YOU for help. OPP Auxiliary is also a good choice.

No way that's pretty cool. At least now I'll have something to recommend my friends who're looking to get into that particular field.
I'm using my degree to study further (going to University) I'm sure if your marks weren't too poor you'd be able to get into a couple of places if you tried aswell.
Prolonging your education definitely beats working :)

Werd. I'm taking criminology now, and I'll be done a full year early because of credits from college.
Where abouts does the OP live anyways?

To the OP: Before you go for your COR, make sure your eyes and ears can pass the testing. I passed at my eye doctor, but they use different techniques to test vision and I was referred back to my eye doctor for approval before they would issue my COR. Just a heads up.

OPP does not have a cadet program anymore, they cut that back in January. The only service I know 100% that still has a cadet program, is London Police.

Oh snap we had people from the OPP come recruit at my school before I graduated.
Halton is doing cadets and that'd be ideal for OP, given his location.

I was going to apply for the London Cadet program, but decided to just go for a Constable position. Was talking with a recruiter there and they told me that if I was best suited for a cadet, they would move my application to that pool. But I feel as though I am a competitive candidate for a constable position now, so hopefully I can get somewhere with that lol.
But yeah OP, just call around to local landscaping companies asking if they need additional workers. From my experiences, small construction/landscaping companies are not very formal when it comes to hiring new workers, so calling and inquiring works best.
