Not sure if this is true, but worth trying. That doesn't mean you can always run over stop signs though.

Doubtful - I just checked the sign near my work - nothing on it. This may only be in one state.

And we don't even HAVE states here!

I've heard before that you can't get charged for running parking lot stop signs.

I wouldn't run a residential though.

I can't count the number of times I've almost been in an accident cause some idiot didn't obey a stop sign. If this actually was a loophole, people would scout their area and then start actually trying to run stop signs. So this better be untrue.

Or, they'd go around ripping off what signs did have stickers and doing the above.

That's true! I was stopped by the popo at the movies parking lot (400 & 7) because of it. Never got a ticket though :)

thats because its private property.

I run the stop signs at sherway gardens all the time. (of course safely if theres no one there)

Same reason why accidents in parking lots are 50/50. Unless of course someone was stunting, then it's different.

i drifted around a mcdonalds, past a cop a couple winters ago. he pulled me over, and just gave me a warning, since it was private property. SCORE!

.

Yes you can get charged for running a stop sign in a parking lot...if the owner of the parking lot give permisson to the police to issue tickets

Here is Belleville their is one plaza that the cops can issue tickets cause the owner of the plaza gave full permisson to the cops to issues tickets if someone does something ilegal...as far as i know it's the only parking lot in Belleville that does it.

A coworker of mine who I ride with for food/gas/cigs during break always run stops in parking lots. We work overnight shifts so there's never anybody in the parking lot and he always tells me that if it's on private property like a plaza or mall, cops can't give a ticket unless you're on a public road.

I find this train of thought kinda stupid though. Stopping at stop signs should be for safety issues just as much as legal issues if not more. I stop at stop signs automatically because its hardwired into my head so I don't make any exceptions (time of day/night, no traffic).

Ah that explains it! I don't remember what he said to me I was just thankful I didn't get a ticket.
