View Full Version : 2010 Paint Chips?

I purchased a white 2010 Mazda 3 GS Sport Hatchback on Tuesday. Fast forward to today (Friday), I lightly washed the car and noticed 4-5 decently sized paint chips on the front bumper and hood. I literally drove the car to and from work (via the 407) today and yesterday, didn't tailgate, etc.

Now my question to you is, will the dealership do anything about the paint? I spoke to the salesperson who sold me the car earlier today and suggested I bring it in tomorrow, but I have a feeling the feedback will be "That's wear and tear".

In addition, the front wheels appear to be out of balance, and I'm hearing a slight grinding sound when shifting gears.

I'm just curious if anyone else has had a similar experience? And if so, did the dealer help?

You should bring the car back to look into wheel balance problem and grinding sound of gears and they will fix it if true. Regarding paint chips, if you didn't see it when picking up, it is hard to tell when it was damaged. You don't need to tailgate to get paint chips. At highway speed, stones fly everywhere. It could be from a truck at a regular distance, a car cutting lane in front of you (lots of dirty in between lanes), drop from flyover above, etc. Warranty won't cover it. However, since you just got your car, a good dealer should give you a touch up pen for free to make you a bit happier.

They most likely won't fix the paint chips unless it's deemed a manufacturer defect. But the other problems, I would take up with them.

Update: They're fixing the paint chips and installing a 3M invisible bra. :)

Wow, that is a surprise... sounds like they may have known about them before you left with the car.

I take what I said back, the dealer did f*@$# all.

I will definitely be taking this up with Mazda Canada when I return from F1 this weekend.

Shitty paint indeed.

I also got a few paint chips -- the same day I picked up my new car. I'm taking it in tomorrow for a quote, but the dealer already told me they wouldn't do the touch up. After I do touch them up, I'm thinking of getting the 3M shield installed. Should I have the touch up done through my dealer?

Not sure what you mean, guarantee against stone chips-surface rust? or their package will help prevent stone chips and surface rust,
I think any paint protection application would stop it. Just a thought...
