Re all,
Like another newb poster here, I too was originally looking into a Matrix, and a FIT Sport (yeah yeah ;-) ). I stumbled upon this amazing forum and then went to see Jeff @ MoT - what a great decision that was! I ended up putting my deposit down a few hours later (after talking w/ wifey of course ;-) ) and picked her up a few days later. Thank you Jeff for quickly finding and snagging the Celestial Blue for us! Despite having to pick it up on a rainy day, the car was immaculate when I began an exhausting detail a few days later.
Wifey luvs it. My 4 month old boy luvs it. And most importantly, I LUV driving it! Zoom Zoom!
Thanks to everyone here for the great info and community spirit!

drooberry: yeah, everyone seems to luv it too. Even seniors have been gawking! ;-)
hit26k: Soon! Trying to juggle the family and a 4 month old - I got in enough trouble already for being gone an entire day this past weekend so I could hand wash, clay, wax and RAIN-X the car! :-)

Nice! Your MazdaSpeed3 will dust them all! Be sure to get some pics on here once you get her.
I decided to go with the Mazda 3 purely for the value and fun that it provides - the FIT was also more to insure. Despite the Mazda 3 having smaller overall trunk capacity (481L) compared to the Matrix and FIT (561L & 582L respectively), the Mazda was so much more enjoyable to drive and it handles beautifully. Surprisingly the Matrix and FIT both use a cheaper torsion bar for their rear suspensions. I also find Toyota, and especially Honda, very cocky when it comes to pricing - Toyota is riding on their 'quality' reputation, but we all know were that went. Honda seems to be stuck back in 2002 thinking we all have no choice but to pay their prices.
I originally had a referral from Toyota HQ, but turns out it meant nothing. I especially enjoyed telling my Toyota contact I bought a Mazda 3 instead! :huge smile
