So ive figured out my issues with my car is actually my clutch on its last legs. Ive been thinking it was my clutch the whole time, just didnt really wanna admit it.

So i have a shop going to do the replacement, but im not sure what to buy for a clutch! I was told the Exedy stage one is the way to go, and have flywheel resurfaced. But i was hoping some guys here could give me their own opinion on what to choose. Im looking for good prices aswell. Dont need anything insane stage 1 at the most!

What do you guys think

No help here, but I too was thinking of going Stage1 to give the clutch pedal some more feedback. The stock unit felt numb. How bout a lightweight flywheel that's also from Exedy the match?

I would agree with the above poster. If you can afford to shell out the cash for a lightweight flywheel from Exedy as well you might as well. Your car will fee quite different with the stage 1 clutch and a lighter flywheel.

Try to avoid the lighter flywheel for longevity.

However i talked to my main parts guy at mazda and he seems to think the shift points need to be relfashed, and its not the clutch. So i dunno i guess ill try the reflash first.

shift points... so its an automatic transmission, for engagement you'd be looking at the torque converter. it's hydraulically actuated so you might want to look at the level and condition of your atf before anything.

Cool. Be afraid of that “mazda guy”, you have the manual transmission and there is no any shift points.

LOL.... that's why he's the "parts guy". Don't get advice from this guy, as he obviously has no idea what he's talking about. You may as well go talk to the receptionist for a diagnosis. If you really want to be certain before spending money on repairs, you need to have the car looked at by a technician. Your sig says you have a short shifter - you have a manual tranny.

While going about 30-40KMH Put the car into 5th gear, and put the gas all the way down.

If the revs go up fast, and the car isnt moving to match the revs, the clutch is slipping (and you should replace)
If the revs match the speed, your not slipping.

Finally, a helpful reply. Thanks MDNT ill try that right after lunch break.

As for the guys talking about the shift points, dont quote me on that one. He said likely needs a reflash however the ecu reads something to do with fuel/air mix after a shift (manual) and it may not be adjusting correctly. Hoping to hook it up for a reflash and possibly start there.

The torque converter sounds like another good place to look, ill have that mentioned when im at mazda tonight. Thanks guys.

Dont ask the dealer about the Torque Converter... only Automatics have them :)

Yes Excedy is great company and all

But I would suggest to support a local Canadian Company, Bully Clutch, know for high quality built and quality clutch kits

Like I said Support Local Canadian Companies:

Stage One is all you need

You can find these clutches in the GTA at:

lol. I thought about that after i replied.

Neways took it to mazda, the techs took it for a drive and thought the car drove amazing. Figures the day i go in, its running perfect. The 2 tech guys were so shocked how hard my car pulled they didnt even really talk to me about my issues, just about whats done to the motor/suspension.
