+ am currently sitting at a dealer while my car gets its 48k serivce. I was advised that the transmission fluid is dirty and has 'a burnt' smell. Tech said it should be bright red, and they recommended i get a flush. Of course the 180 dollar price tag was way too high and i said i,ll pass (time to call Jimmy).
Do i really need a flush? Or just a drain and fill. I,ve heard from a few people that a flush might not always be the best route.
Can anyone give me their insights?
Thanks

U don't have to do it at the dealership but when you do it at another shop, make sure you get a receipt for oil and the labor. Other wise if you don't and if your tranny goes then you're out of luck since mazda will think you didn't do the transmission fluid change.

Pass on the flush. Just standard upsell item.

Well i wouldn't just pass on it and then forget about it. If you're thinking they might be just taking money off you, go to your advisor and ask to see the car and let the tech show you if the fluid is black or not. Otherwise if its black then i would suggest getting it done at the dealership or anywhere you trust. Techs call things for a reason and its recommended. You can choose not to do it but i wouldn't leave it and not do it. And tranny flushes usually needs to be done at 50k or so. So yes you do have 4k left but it also varies from driving habits

I was at Agincourt Mazda, the Service Advisor and tech were great, they did take me to the back and explain a few things to me, they also showed me the tranny fluid, it was not red thats for sure. More like a dark brown color.
I am just not sure if i should be getting a flush or a fill/drain..
If I do get the service done I will be going to Jimmy. I am sure he will provide the proper reciepts and what not.

If you're car is relatively new, i would suggest doing a drain and fill. When you do that, it'll let the fluid flush out all the dirt and shavings from the tranny. Drain and fill is cheaper because they dont' use as much fluid.
Think about it. Doing a drain and fill on a tranny is like changing oil and not pulling the oil filter out.

my car is a 2008.5.. the tech was saying if you drain/fill they only remove about 3L of fluid from your car.
I guess i'll leave it up to Jimmy, i'll have to give him a call this week,

Auto = change it. Manual = don't change it. You can get away with more mileage on a manual than an auto.
