hey guys, just bought a 2010 MS3. Very excited about it.
I'm getting my car from Avante. Just wondering if I should do some of the "recommended" stuff to the car before picking it up.
The major thing would be rustproofing. I've heard many different opinions on many different methods. I heard the underbody rubbery stuff isn't all that great. I've also heard good things about Krown, but I'm too lazy to get it done once a year. Apparently, there's also a water-based rustproofing that Avante offers. Says they don't need to drill holes. (but how does the stuff get applied???) Anyone have experience with this? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Hey ! Welcome to the club!
What color did you get?
Jmo- I opted not to do any of that stuff! Knowing you can have it done at anytime for a fraction of the cost was my biggest motivation!
Krown has been discussed to death on this and many other boards..a topic search within the board will answer that for you.
I personally will be doing it this fall but can guarantee it won't happen every year for what its worth.
Cheers!

Hi there!
Same here - picking up my new M3 GS today! :)
After my own research I decided not to spend money on dealership rustproff - too expensive and I am not sure it will hold it against rust after warranty if it applied only once.
I will do Krown right away then will re-apply maybe every 2-3 years. That worked well on my previous cars great for no rust for 10 years.
Congrats with your new car!

Thanks for your input. Only reason why I'm considering it is because I'm getting 0% finance so no cost of borrowing. But yeah, reading the posts about Krown, that sounds like the way to go. AND I can save money for mods :chuckle
As for colour, it's Black Mica.

Small update:
So I got the car on Sat, drove it home and that's about it. Set up the bluetooth and various minor things. This car is... WOW! Great bang for your buck. Feels great to drive, it's comfortable, has a ton of bells and whistles. I've never really been a sound system type of guy, but after hearing what the system can do... it does make a WORLD of a difference. I think I'm hooked now... might look into sound dampening.
Like I said, didn't get to drive it much, and it's not like I can really push it because I'm trying to break it in. I did manage to stall it like a idiot at a stop light because I'm not really use to the clutch yet. It catches really fast compared to my old car. That was pretty embarrassing.
As for mods, I'm taking the car to Audio Heaven this coming Sat to get tints and the ventureshield. Other than that, nothing performance wise for about a year or so. Prob gonna get the CS SRI/TIP bundle, the RMM and maybe the turbosmart dual port.
What did you guys do for winter tires? I'm not sure what my car came w/, they're Dunlops and they don't look like they're all-seasons. I was thinking of getting winter tires for my stock rims, cuz I have a set of 5zigens from my old car. They're the same size except the offset is +43. Will that fit on the 2010?
Thanks.

You will definitely need snows, the stock tires are summers and do not do well in snow lol. And your rims should fit as long as the bolt pattern is 5 x 114.3 I believe. Someone correct me if that's wrong.

For winters, depends on where you are and what kind of driving you do. You'll want some sort of winter tire regardless. My $0.02: Keep an eye open for used Hankook W300 ice bears, or talk to Allen at Simply Tire. He does winter tire group buys every fall - his prices and service keep me coming back.

+1
I'm running Hankook W300 Ice bears on my MS3, got them last winter and they work like a charm. Highly recommend them.

Awesome. I'll wait till fall then for winters.
BTW, does anyone have the TWM shortshifter installed on their car? What do you guys think about it? I read somewhere that the TWM shortshifter for the 2010 is faulty or something.
