"TGPT Blog: Tomorrow's gas price increase (due to the HST) ... by the numbers:
Toronto Wholesale (reg/unl): 60.7 Ontario Sales Tax (per litre): 14.7 Federal Excise Tax (per litre): 10 Toronto Retail Margin: 7 Subtotal: 92.4 (cpl) Multiplied by 13% (HST) = 12.01 (cpl) + 92.4 (cpl) = 104.4 (cpl) Breakdown of other cities upon request TGPT "
huh? so they did HST and PST? or is Ontario Sales Tax not PST?

It will be what, an extra $4 or so per tank now? Yeah it sucks that we are paying more, but it's not wallet breaking. I know tons of people are saying they are going to rush and fill up their tanks tonight, but I don't know if I will be one of them (unless I'm already out).

They should've done it like BCs HST. BCs HST doesn't apply to gas.

You might be partially right but the thing is, have you thought about the people that drives a lot and have a big tank? Like some people put in 2 tanks a week.

It hurts me a bit seeing as I have about 100L of fuel to fill every week between the 4Runner and the 3. But I'm not waiting in line for an hour to save the $8 for this week.

I'm with you on that, I hate seeing those long ass lineups it's brutal! I'll drive by one if it's empty then I'll swing by but filled up this morning so I really don't need much...

I just filled up both my military issued rental van (on the government's dime), as well as my 3. Dam the lineup at all the gas stations.

Filled up the 3 and put 25L into a red tank too :) Only had to wait 5 minutes at the station since I went against the grain and was first in line after some minivan.
$61 is nuts.
EDIT: BTW 92.2 cents/L

Their gas does not get charged hst. It will get charged a carbon tax though - see they're NOT being taxed more, just adding new taxes ;)

Damn the gov't. They need to get their head on straight instead of finding ways to tax us to death.

Yah. Everyone here was fueling up yesterday anyway. The gas wasn't going up because of the HST but because they introduced a new Carbon Tax cause they want people to stop driving the big trucks. Doesn't look like it's worked from the traffic I've seen.

Pokey was talking about no HST on gas in B.C. but they have carbon tax. But in Ontario the increase is actually due to HST.

I'm in BC right now. So "everyone here" is BC peoples. They're introducing the tax to encoruage people to drive more fuel-efficient cars.
I mean, it wasn't the $0.10/litre increase like in Ontario. It only went up like $0.01. Although, the Carbon Tax is staggered, and will be increasing every year for the next few years.

Some of us don't work full time and need every penny we have to survive.. What I make in a month barely covers insurance and the cost of gas (before the hike)...if i'm lucky i'm left with $100 over a two week period. $4 every time I fill up will be very noticable in a year when I'll still be without coilovers because of the this damn increase!

Double awesome, I just got rid of my 3 and bought a 3.7L I5 truck :|, with a 72+litre tank....$75 and its still not full....wth the increase, its only an extra $2.80 to fill my tank, not enough to really bitch about when im already paying almost $80 to fill it..

Just to put it into perspective, last year we paid up to 140-150 a litre (Ultra 94) and about 120-130 for regular. I DONT agree with HST, but the people that waited hours to save 2-3 bucks makes me laugh. We have had it worse, and albeit it got better, we dont fight enough to NOT get buttraped.
Way to go Ontario! :D

I was lucky enough to fill my tank coming up from downtown with the gauge well past E (stupid me). Sunoco (Petro) on steeles and warden still had gas and haven't changed their price when I got there (12:10 ish).

well F me in the A hole.
Looks like I'm out of fuel already on BOTH cars!
110L of mid-grade fuel = no more $$$ to buy pork grinds and beer. @$&%#€!!!!
Hopefully I can scrape up enough Nickles and quarters to buy a siphon hose. Never really liked my neighbours anyways

Well I remember when 66 cents was too high for gas. 55.9/L was the regular when I first started driving.
ssssiiiiiiiiggghhhhh ...... when $5 of gas was enough to blast to Wasaga Beach for the weekend and back with some left over for the Monday morning commute.
This was obviously before the fancy Lit-up gas price signs.
