Anyone read this gem yet?

Pretty interesting read. Any one tried out this method yet? Thoughts? Comments?

I read that before I broke in this engine. Many of us subscribe to that school of thought. If you search for 'engine break in 'you will find many of us have posted our opinions. Personally I broke my engine in like the s2000 guys do.

Thanks for the tip!
Found your post:
^^ troof! I don't have a speed 3, but I did my research on this topic when I bought my car (my first new car). I did what the S2000 guys do; as soon as I got on a safe stretch of road, with a properly warmed drive train, I wound out 2nd and let compression slow down the car. Let it rest a minute, and repeated. I did this on my way home from picking up the car. After that I made sure to vary rpms for a couple of weeks, but I continued to drive it hard and use compression to slow down as much as possible. Its been 5 years and I don't burn a drop of oil (knock on wood).
When you said 'wound out 2nd', so that's all the way to redline with open throttle?
And "use compression to slow down" is engine braking?

Yes and yes. Knock on wood, my car still doesn't burn oil. It eats o2 sensors like mad though.

Any recommendations for safe, long stretches of road?
Turns out 2nd gear goes up to like, 70-80+ km/h. Or, I could just do it all in 1st gear.
Thanks for the tips though. Props.

I think you will want to use second gear. It will allow you longer deceleration time compared to first (longer exposure to engine braking) and I suspect its easier on the transmission.
