My 36 month comprehensive warranty is up in October and I'm thinking of getting the coverage extended until 2014.

However, the MAP is $2,225 plus taxes and late penalty. IMO you can fix alot of stuff for that price.

Our 07 MS3 only has 24,000km on it and it's going to be my wife's DD for the most part. No engine mods planned an no white smoke of death yet.

So, seeing that my MS3 wont be "abused," is these a need for an extended warranty?

thanx

yes get it cuz the turbo alone is worth more than $2300

and it doesnt matter if u beat the hell out of it or not ... it WILL blow

or your timing chain might stretch and your SOL again

I bought a used 07 speed3 with 75,000kms and opted out of the extended warranty. You should still have powertrain coverage to 5 years or 100,000kms anyways.

I went with the extended warranty due to turbo-related paranoia. Either I'll drive the car into the ground or sell it with 1 year remaining on the warranty. To me the peace of mind was worth it.

I didn't purchase an extended warranty with my 07 (slightly used) when I bought it. I found it rather expensive. So far no major issues other than having to replace one of the rear shocks. Turbo's a gamble, but if you have issues with it it *may* be covered under a service bulletin. Ask to see which of the TSBs have been performed on the car -- on an 07 the side motor mount (bolt) should have been replaced, possibly something regarding door locks, and you probably qualify for free winter floor mats :) Oh, and "corrosion protection" (rustproofing) on all doors.

If it were me, I wouldn't spend the money... just toss it in a TFSA and let it accumulate interest until I had to shell out for whatever repairs were needed down the road!

I checked under the hood and it does have the sticker stating that the motor mount bolt was serviced. I know there was a recall with the winter mats, but is there a way to get FREE ones? I just have the red letter "Mazdaspeed" mats. They kinda suck actually. Probably going to get some weathertech liners anyways

Oh yeah, get the weathertech's... they're a little pricey, but they'll last the life of the car and save the carpet.

For peace of mind.... don't go into boost until the car has fully warmed up. Make sure to idle the car for 30 seconds to 1minute after a hard drive or freeway driving. This lets the liquid circulate through the turbo to cool it. Also, don't load the car under 3000 rpm. The majority of blown motors in these cars happen this way. If you want to accelerate, downshift to get your rpm's up.

Same here, only mine had just under 22,000 km, opted out of the extended warranty, still have the remainder of the 5yr/100000km power train left on the car, the turbo is covered under power train, correct?

Interesting development: the dealer I bought from called me and said they just realized the previous owner had the extended warranty till october 2012 on the car. Just got to go to any Mazda dealership and pay the $35 to transfer it over.

Hmmm... I was told that the turbo was covered under comprehensive, so it was only 3 yrs. But I didn't purchase the extended warranty, the monthly payments didn't quite add up to the warranty. Also, if my turbo/engine blows, that gives me a reason to rebuild :).

A bit off topic, but does our HID bulbs or ballast under warranty as well for the first 3 yrs 60k.

they ask less questions on an extended warranty. It paid off for me!

yeah I got 84/160 bumper to bumper one of the reasons for getting a Mazda was due to one of the longest BB warranties in the business failed to get it on my Turbo VW and had a blown turbo after 85,000km and a blown engine due to oil pump failure at 130,000km both outside of warranty time frame and VW would not even considered helping but for the Turbo they upgraded air filter to stop crap from getting into turbo and ****ing bearing up only dealer knows this as stock air filter is shit one. Yeah so fully loaded sport vs Speed might as well get the speed so I would not have regrets later, go big or go home!!

Yeah all bulbs are covered went in to buy a signal bulb for SPeed and just asked service on way to parts and they said yeah, to bad they did not have speed bulb in stock and had to come back another day! Feel stupid fro getting dealer to replace but if it's free why not?

that statement regarding loading under 3000 is so true.. happened to my last mps3...the motor didn't blow..just that the car was choking and losing power...the feeling ain't right
