that thing must be amazing to drive.
insurance are NOT BAD on bmws at all.. a 3 series cost no more to insure than mz3. the 335i is slightly more

this is what I've been waiting for for a long time, this is probably as close to the original mid 80's m3 that we're ever going to see. Don't get me wrong I love the new 3 series and the new m3's but they've gotten really big. you but this generations 3 series next to a first gen 3 series you'll see what I mean. This one series m coupe must be a similar driving experience to that mid 80's car

How much is a BMW 1-Series Coupe 128i, Alpine White, Taupe Leatherette, plus $1500 Option for sunroof, heated wheel, etc.?
I might be asking the wrong forum but I give up on the bmw forums -_-
I'd suggest going to BMW's website and price one out. That's pretty much what someone here will do in response to your question. =) (Someone who isn't as lazy as me, I mean)

$35800 + $1800 for the premium pack. trust me the heated seats are a MUST for winter! they warm up almost instantly & its bottom + back not just bottom.
they have a bit of incentives.. i don't know what they are, you have to visit dealer to see.
also worth checking out is the sport pack that gives you the sport seat with powered bolsters, very good especially for small/light ppl.

bmw.ca shows 60 months term right now its $712 with tax with a base 128i + premium pack with $4000 down. 1.9% financing
dealers should have more discount, I know they had options like free auto 'upgrade' for the 3 series.
Blah, but if you're blowing that much on a new BMW might as well do the European delivery program!!
prinsesa
01-11-2011, 03:45 PM
Whats the european delivery program? lol
slam525i
01-11-2011, 05:38 PM
European delivery program = you pick it up from the factory, drive it around Europe for a vacation, and drop it off at a port to have it shipped back home to you. It's a pretty sweet program.
So, since no one has said it, I will. The BMW 1-Series M coupe needs only 1 thing... it needs less power. The entire 1-series available in North American needs less power. Basically, the M just needs to be a 135i with better suspension and brakes.
0-60 times don't matter. But how long that grin lasts on your face as you keep the throttle planted against the back-stop does. The bigger the engine, the shorter the grin (before you hit ridiculous speeds). Plus, a smaller engine forces you to be more precise in your turns and carry momentum. It seems like the whole idea of a balanced, proportionally powered car has been lost to everyone except Lotus.
The 1-series M may be as close to the E30 M3 as we've ever gotten, but it's really no-where close.

Delaying acceleration makes the experience more enjoyable? I couldn't disagree more, a Prius takes a long time to accelerate and that additional time to savour things doesn't make it more pleasurable. The only the 1 series needs less of is weight, and a mechanical LSD

I see what you're saying, a vehicle with a smaller engine would inherit better handling, braking and acceleration from the weight savings and balance but smaller engine doesn't mean less power. BMW is able to reliably push a great amount of power from their V6, so why not use it. I think 335hp would be incredible and a 3.0L V6 is a small engine by today's standards. It very much is a 135i with better suspension and brakes. The 335i just got a bump to 335hp, so likely the 135i will get the same bump.

Prius is a really bad example, it has no suspension, no power, nothing. A miata doesn't have much power but it is known as a great track car.

And a Miata with more power would be a better track car.... my CSX Type S has similarly upgrade brakes, suspension and tires as the Mazdaspeed 3 does to the regular 3 then if you want a more comparable example and it accelerates more slowly and that does not make it more fun/exciting. The sound track is better but the argument slam525i presented was that less power in the 1 series would be more fun soundtrack aside I disagree.

I'm just really happy.
Why?
Because I foresee this lil 1M taking the place of the honorable e30 for the grassroots racers of the next 20 years--JUST like the e30 has been doing since the late 80's. Their following, aftermarket support (legit support, not wings and tails--RACING support), is second to only the Miata. And they have one of the best 'club-racing' organizations.
Lets be honest. You can have a cool car and play by yourself any day--we all know its exponentially more fun when the numbers of participants increase. (puns intended)
The hair on my back is tingling at what's available in 5-10 years' time. :):)
Taking power away is never the answer. Reducing weight is... Sure, you can create a better balanced car, and that car will be easier to drive (but not necessarily more fun). But if you're reducing power to create that balance, it usually means you cut corners somewhere else....

+1 exactly. Get the 1 series to 2700lbs with the same power and then we'd be talking

Olestra, to "Bimwads" V6s are the work the devil. They're inline-6, and they're magical, especially the M50 and the whole series of derivatives it sprung forth.
Oh, and RTEnthusiast, you should probably see a urologist... it's not supposed to look like that... :P

Reducing power would suck ... especially on an M vehicle. beemers are really smooth, 400hp doesn't feel that fast and they are so easy to control. I both agree & disagree with the fun to drive factor... I have both 323 & 335. The N/A response is far more entertaining than waiting for turbo lag and its got more than enough everyday power. But when I'm a hurry 200hp isn't fun.
Sadly today's 323i & 128i are more similar to the E30 M3 than today's M vehicles, they're similar power to original M & a bit less weight than current M cars. Plus they are relatively stripped down option wise.
Olestra: 335is model is the one you're thinking with 335hp~ 135i & 335i uses a powerplant.

The ZF auto in those cars have full lock up torque converters & slightly shorter gearing than the manuals. They're good drag racing trannys

he killed that manual 4 door 3 series as soon as the manual shifted =(
I think that vid is a while ago, 403hp can now be obtained without meth and on 91 with bolt ons. He should be 30-40hp faster now with 94+ meth than in the vid with jb4/procede v5/cobb AP =o Plus now the autos have launch control with teh newer tunes... should be pulling even more consistant time
and whats with the video, he looked like he was shifting an auto when the pedals are on the steering?

The official price won't be released for a bit but I would expect it to be closer to 60K base.
Only 200 will be allocated to Canada. Very limited colour selection as well :)
Joe... I wish I could arrange to even be able to drive one... I'll have to beg marketing :P The execs will definitely be sharing it when we get one.
Head office will always have the cars way before they are released to the dealers/public.
I saw the M3 way back almost year before it was out in Canada... the damn V8 would rumble my desk each time it came in and out of the back warehouse.

The frozen colours are sweet, just not sure about maintenance on the paint :S
